this was discussed a while back,,,can't find the thread where it was discussed anyway.

Yes, it goes in to affect on Oct 1, but the law supplies an out for any county commision to exempt the county from abiding by this law,,,,now may be the time to lean on your county commisioner and let them know that there would be LOTS of registered voters that would like this law to stay like it is in your particular county.

There was a report on BayNew9 about that today. They were saying how it's going to cause more accidents, be more dangerous, and make more work for the police....blah, blah, blah, FEAR, FEAR, FEAR!

Plus, I don't know what this had to do with the new law, but they threw in the "A girl died two weeks ago when she was thrown from an ATV". (They left out the part that she was riding double, without a helmet, without adult supervision, on a road way.)

I never realized how dangerous these ATV things are. I'm thinking of selling mine and using the money to protect myself against the impending terrorist strike, and asian bird flu!  Someone HOLD ME, I'm SCARED.

Seconding the motion set forth by Uncle Rico, "On Aug. 12, a 13-year-old girl in Hernando died after being thrown from an ATV that her 12-year-old cousin was driving. It was the fourth serious crash in the Tampa Bay region in just over a week and focused attention on the perils of these powerful machines." So it seems that a car that makes 200 horsepower pales in comparasion to the whole 60hp or so that  the most powerful atv makes.. Thats like a weed eater vs a lawn mower.. Anyway Uncle Rico is right. Also, if this country is in a fuel crisis, atvs get allot better mpg then cars do. Funny how a "Perilous powerful machine" could actually help solve our fuel problem.

You should  start lining up' all atv riders to each voting places and even courthouses
through out  all counties in florida so our voting makes a right one for us' and teach your kids
to ride right and what are the wrong things to do in life by breaking rules. Smiley

So' Start planing Asap before oct1 2006 and go ''there'' during morning hours so people will know to
make your voting a diffrence to make right one out there.

"So' Good luck out there''
Thanks,

I say we should be allowed on all streets, save on parking because 4 full size quads fit in one parking spot and good on gas.  Even if it is passed, let the ones who dont wear helmets die, dont ruin it for the ones that do ride safe.

Thats sweet I live just off the paved road and have tons of dirt roads around me for miles. This will make it easier for us. Every weekend we ride around our neighbor hood with no proplems but this will help us keep in the law. Grin

I am looking for the article now, but I swear it said the Divison of Foresty has already opted out of this as they are not governed by the same rules. If I find it I will post the link.

That would be sweet, but I read also that the DIVISION of FORESTRY is OPTIONING OUT.

Check with Grizz though, he would know for sure.

And make sure you guys join that OCALA NATIONAL ATV orginization that he runs. SUPPORT YOUR FELLOW ATV-ers.

I don't ride Ocala much, but I kicked in my $25.00 because it's a good cause.

The Ocala National Forest is opting out.  There arguement is that the numbered roads allow a speed of over 35 mph.  Everyone must also remember that it is only for riders over 16, unless accompanied by an adult.

Another item in the law is that one rider per vehicle, unless the vehicle manufacturer states it is built for two.  I can not determine if this goes into effect on Oct1, 2006, or July 1, 2008 when all under 16 riders must be certified.  By the way, ONFA is applying for a grant to be able to certify all under 16 riders.

One of the rangers at big scrub told me no, because onf is federal land and this law is for state land.
