With the money that these guys make they should be held to a higher standard. I don't think anyone should take abuse but let the security throw the unruly fan out of the arena. I would want to jump up in the stands and kick the guy's a$$ too but I'm not making a zillion bucks and in the public eye. The ballplayers need an education to deal with their role.

From the very start of their careers, they are counsuled and trained to deal with things like that.  Its inexcusable! Short of someone beating your wife or children in the stands, you should never leave the court for any reason to throw blows with a fan!  At what point in their 10 minute show of stupidity did the players stop to think- OK! I should'nt be doing this. This is not right. Things are getting really ugly here. My million dollar shoe contract is in jeopardy!  There are children here! Im on national television!  Im about to get beat down by hundreds of fans!

You would think at some point, their minds would trigger some reality and say- Let me just go to the locker room before this gets worse.

Ron Artest wanted some time off to work on his Rap Album!
I hope he gets as much time as he needs now.

Man that was something. Reminds me when the NHL hockey player went after a fan. Of course this is after the fan poured a soft drink all over the coaches head. Domi did this too, but he pulled the fan into the penalty box.... I don't think I would fight the fans that put the money in my paycheck.

higher standard??? lets not forget most of the guys werent born rich,, most are from the "hood". I dont know what happend in this particular game, I DONT CARE... but i feel if a fan does something to get punched than than punch was deserved.. it was domi who had the drink pored on him, and i would have beat that guys ass too. Lets say your racing at a FTR national race and some guys on the side of the track throws a bucket of water in your face as your going by... what do you do..  " oh its ok mister thanks...i was hot anyway" doubt  it you get off and kick him square in the nuts with your riding boots~!!!! higher standard??? you get rocked you rock back!

AND in the words of forrest gump  "THATS ALL I GOT TO SAY ABOUT THAT!"

The fans abuse goes with the territory - just like anyone in the public eye you open yourself up to all kinds of crap. That's why there is security and that's why they get paid the big bucks - to deal with it and still entertain. Higher standard means not dropping yourself to the level of the unruly fan. Kids look up to these athletes as role models - would MJ or Kareem have chased a fan up in the stands - doubt it. PROFESSIONAL Athlete or "acts like he just got off the block" athlete - who do you want your kid watching? And in my given position if someone threw a coke at me he'd have to fight me - but I'm not on TV am I.

athlete or no athlete I would be some kinda pissed off. with that said I can understand both arguments on this issue howeve rI side with the players. With the exception of Ron Artest, I feel bad for the players that went to help defend their idiot team mate. I was glad to see Attest get the worst punishment b/c he caused the grief for his teammates.....that guy has entirely too much pride and he isnt willing to swallow any of it. He has been and will always be a trouble maker. I can understand his reaction but that doesnt justify it. The pistons should also be punished for not providing proper security at the floor level. I bet we'll see some changes in that respect but you cant be too hard on these guys because regardless of the money they make or the spotlight they are under....they are still people and still have alot of respect for themself. just my $.02
