Any information available about this topic would be greatly appreciated. I am starting to wonder if any of you on the commission ever read your email. This is the third time I have sent this and have not gotten one response. Thanks.

Subject: OHV plans?

All

I was wondering if there has been any discussion on the acquiring of land for the use of off highway vehicles, particularly ATV's?  There have been numerous grants rewarded to different counties for this exact idea. These grants are provided by the State of Florida Department of Forestry. The program is call the following: OHV Safety and Recreation Grant Program.  This program, paid for by atv titling fees, recently completed its first two rounds of grant awards.  In all, over $1,000,000 has been allocated to OHV projects. The following is a example of the grant that was awarded to Miami-Dade county. Has Palm Beach County requested these monies or performed any studies on this topic?

Miami-Dade County - Parks and Recreation Department
o   Request of funds ($75,000) to hire a consultant to perform a study to assist in identifying areas throughout the county suitable for possible OHV recreation.  Approximately 24% of all title sales since the inception of the OHV Titling Act have been in south Florida with essentially no legal riding opportunities on public lands.  The project will be considered a success if at least one site is located, costs to acquire and develop the area are estimated, and potential funding sources are identified.  Staff will manage the contractor as match.

i kno the post is old but i finally got some replies

I'd like to acknowledge and thank you for your recent e-mail requesting county owned property to ride ATV's.

I appreciate your taking the time to write and share your comments on this matter with me.  I have forwarded a copy of your e-mail to Eric Call, Assistant Director of the County's Parks and Recreation Department, for his comments.  Once I receive his response, I will be back in touch with you.

In the interim, if I can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact my office.

Sincerely,

Karen T. Marcus
County Commissioner

I'd like to take this opportunity to provide an update on my previous e-mail regarding acquiring land for ATV's.

County staff is looking into using a grant for a study of potential property.  They are also looking into Miami-Dade County's efforts.  I will continue to keep you posted as I hear additional information from County staff.

In the interim, if I can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact my office.

Sincerely,

Karen T. Marcus
County Commissioner

hell I can make a study of the g-dam properties and you can bet it will be a hell of a lot cheaper. Them dam studies will eat up 99% of the money and take 3 years. Every f-in thing they do takes a study. In Palm Beach County there can't be more than a handful of sites to be considered. I'll bet every constituent that sends an e-mail, no matter what the topic, gets the "We need to have a study" line. I'm going to have a study to see how many rednecks in PBC are willing to stand up and vote for ONCE cause galldangit I might run. G-dam I can't do no worse than Crooked Massilotti He don't even bother to show up and the taxpayers are still paying his salary. I bet he laughs his ass off every time there is an article in the paper about him mising meetings and swindlin land deals.

Just stay on them.  At least you got a response.  I work alot here with my city commissioners and even gone to a few broward commissioner meetings.  The key is, don't let up.  Stay in contact with w/the county commissioner.  Ask for the County Parks Department Assistant Director's direct contact.  She may not give to you at first, but she will get so tired of the constant contact, she will.

You live in the county, so you have alot better chance of getting her to respond to you, due to the fact you can vote.  You need to get as many people in the county or atleast make it sound like you do, behind you.

I would be happy to email them if you like, anything that I can do let me know.  Perhaps read the thread regarding the Mecca Farms deal.  You know sometimes, if you point them in the right direct it helps.  Give them some idea's.  But whatever you do, don't let up.....

And always remember one thing, you get more with sugar than you do salt.  In another words, if you approach this in anger and resentment, you won't get very far.  Approach in matter of appreciation and understanding.  They like working with easier going people, they don't like being backed into a corner.

Your next contact to could in the manner, (of hey, I don't mean to keep bothering you, but I have so many PB County residents contacting me with this matter and wanting to know where it stands, I told them I would give you a call.  I realize that you must have so many things going on, but they just really want to know what's going on.....) She will more than likely respond, oh I know, but I just haven't heard anything back yet, that's when you ask for the assistant directors contact. If she says, well I really can't do that, okay no problem I understand, I will just follow-up with you then.  Oh by the way, do you mind if I just tell these people who keep contacting me, to contact you directly.  ect, ect, ect.

If she says sure, come back on here, and we will pound her with emails and calls.  I am sure we can get people to help.  She don't know where we live, now does she...

Well, let me know, keep us posted.

Good luck.

Ok here's what i sent....

Since South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) illegally closed down the Picayune Strand state forest under the guise of "Eveglades Restoration", they have created a regional crisis not only for the residents of Palm beach county, but ALL residents south of the I-4 Corridor. They have basically condemed our ATV's/Jeeps etc wiithout financially reimbursing those affected by their illegal actions. As a matter of fact, they are in the process of being sued by Collier county for their failure to meet their contractual agreement  in providing to the county 640 +/- acres for thier illegal closure of 70,000 acres of recreational area. Please do not be fooled by the propaganda that continually spews out of their brain washing machine.A special master had to be appointed to oversee this "project" and just last month on July 5th, both SFWMD and FL DEP were found guilty of polluting into the same everglades that they are trying to "restore" FOR THE 4TH TIME.(www.earthjustice.org)We ask that you please, as a service to the recreational families of Palm Beach county, try to find an ORV area in the county. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.

Sincerly yours
