The city commission of North port has voted 4 - 1 in favor of an atv and camping ban. So that means as of last night it is officially against the law to ride an atv or camp in the city of North port.We at north port off road association are looking for a civil liberty lawyer to fight this issue. We feel our right to be heard was denied by the commissioners and that they did not give us due consideration to find an alternative to an out right ban.If you are a civil liberty attorney or know a good one please go onto www.northportoffroad.com and let yourself be known to our group. Thank You for reading this post and for whatever help you may render.  I would also like to invite any of you to please accept this invitation and join our association. Thats www.northportoffroad.com

Fla. Town Bans All-Terrain Vehicles

POSTED: 3:56 pm EDT July 11, 2006
UPDATED: 4:00 pm EDT July 11, 2006

NORTH PORT, Fla. -- A popular destination for southwest Florida All-Terrain Vehicle enthusiasts is now off limits.

The North Port City Council has voted to ban camping and ATV riding in the city. A population boom led to clashes between residents and riders who began cutting trails on vacant land in the 1970s

The city of 50,000 has logged 230 ATV complaints so far this year.

City Commissioner Barbara Gross said this will protect the public property and the private property owners.

Police can now fine rogue rides between $100 and $1,000 for infractions.

North Port police have already asked for new tools to enforce the ban -- two ATVs.

So people that live there can't legally ride anywhere within the city - but the city is going to allow the police to get 2 ATV's. I thought even the police had to follow the LAW.

the best thing is 2 year ago when we were trying for a legal atv riding area we had suggested they get ATVs even had some rough prices  the same idiots would not even consider it because the liability was to great for the city not to mention the cost-- now we can't ride and they are planning to get them
