Buddy saw this on the Naples local news yesterday;

The county commisioners will vote on this on July 25th.

Water District offers 750 acres to Collier for ATV park

June 20, 2006

Collier County commissioners are considering an offer from the south Florida Water Management District to set up an off-road vehicle park. The Water District is offering the county 750 acres in the North Belle Meade area, off Collier Boulevard, just north of US 41.
At a meeting in April, Collier commissioners issued an ultimatum to the Water District to find that piece of land. It was all part of a deal in which the county gave up roads in the Everglades restoration area in exchange for land for an ATV park.

Article from yesterdays paper

I have a question though I think I saw that it would be 750 acres but the back 200 would be closed off?  Did i read this right?  So really we'd only get 500 acres which is less than 1 square mile?  That wasn't the agreement.

You are absolutely correct. Not onlt that, the agreement stipulated that the county would be GIVEN the land,in this case, it stays under state control..We have to keep the pressure on. Hope to see you at the BBQ...

Folks, dont forget the BBQ this Saturday @ 12:00 . Hopefully it will give us an opportunity to meet and to try to start a club, association , whatever you call it to stop these senseless closures....Bring your own food, drinks and so on...

For those of us that have never ridden there, it might help to post directions.  A larger showing will only reinforce our show of commitment to force them to provide a riding area that meets their previous promises and our needs.  500 acres can get real small, real fast, even slogging through mud.
