At the risk of sounding ignorant, what's the purpose and benefit of a steering dampner?

A damper keeps the bars straight and keeps them from shaking at high speeds. It helps you track straighter over the whoops. If you ride/race in the woods it keeps the bars from being ripped out of your hands when you hit a root or a rock. Like YFZ said it helps with arm pump. If you ever rode with one you would never ride without one. One of the best mods for the price.

its one of the mods that you wont notice untill you ride with out 1. when i put mine on i really didnt notice it. but i rode a freinds bike with out one and wow i almost broke my wrist again. deff. worth the money. well a precision. but if you dont have $480 you can get a denton for $150

Probably gonna costlike 1500 just because of the name.
