I was just wondering if any one who rides has had or knows someone who rides that has had a lower lumbar laminectomy with hardware.(rods and screws in spine W/bone fusion).And can you still ride after recovery?thanks just wanted to know.

I bet you can if you swallow a bunch of pain pills, and put on a backbrace, should be no problem. Other than that I really don't know if you can ride after all that I guess it depends what the Dr says and how well you feel up to ridding.

broke my neck in 3 places 7/31/01 18 months rehab 56 years young still ride it depends on you and the doc. good luck, been there done that  [smiley=BigSmile.gif]

Since you will be full of rods and screws anyway, just remove the seat and bolt your ass to the frame and become one with the bike.  Wink

Yes you can! Providing you have healed up. My teamates dad had the SAME surgery not even 1 year now and he raced with us this weekend. He tried at our last race and felt the course was too much for him and chose not to run after the practice lap. This time he completed and placed! He did not wear a brace either. He says his Dr told him that the bumbing and jarring will actually help heal stronger.
Just take it easy and know when to say when.
And stay off the pain pills. That is a whole nother topic.

Thank you everyone for the info,I will just have to wait and see,only 2 weeks since surgery.Finally able to sit and use computer for a bit.Just wondering and thanks again.

hell yea had same thing done L4 and L5 gone sking and ride dont be a baby it will let u know when u have done to much

I also had back surgury 10 years ago and still ride, its not if you can ride its what you ride.A safe bet is a four wheeler with good independant suspension.

Dont want to hyjack the post. but since we are on the medical thread.

Anyone dislocated their shoulder, to the rear.
How long before the pain was gone, and were some what back to normal.

im waiting for surgey date now ,i have a hernated disc L4/5 . damm DRs  give you so much B.S run around. i havent been able to walk for over 90 days..

thanks again guys.i had same thing L4  L5 rupture.only had to wait 2 months for surgery.been almost 3 weeks since surgery,stopped using walker a week ago.good luck 500runner on your surgery.

i have screws and plate and fusion between c3 c4, dr. told me i would be paralyzed forever and look at me now. i have wrecked 39 times and still going.
