Road rage--- Has it ever happened to you?
«
on:
May 03, 2006, 05:23:09 PM »
I was born in WPB, FL in 1966. I live and grew up in Palm Beach county. In 40 years so much has changed it makes me sad or sick, I can't tell anymore. Guess I can't blame anyone for wanting to live in paradise.
However, paradise has been lost. All this talk of illegal immigrants and nobody talks about the biggest invasion to happen to our state that comes from the North East. Just try and find a place to ride you OHV and you'll know what I mean.
Anyway, I grew up on a small horse ranch where we bred champion Appaloosa horses. People were freindly and eager to help one another. Something called Southern hospitality. You might have read about that in your history class. Today that is all but gone.
I was on I-95 today and some jackbag driving a Silver Dodge dually, pulling a 4 horse gooseneck with horses in it cut me off. And I don't mean got in front of me. I mean looked in his rearview mirror and jerked the wheel over. I slammed on the brakes, and how the ass end of that trailer didn't take out my frontend I'll never know. So I did something I shouldn't have. I shot him the finger. And I meant everything it stands for--- FU!! I lost my mind for a moment and all I wanted that fat F to do was pull over and take his medicine. He shouted and returned fire and we went on like that for a mile. I begged him to pull over and F me like he was screaming.
Me, being the dumbass I am, happen to be in the company truck. So the guy calls my boss who in turn calls me. He is also from here. He tells me to calm down and forget about it. I do. This jackbag gets next to me again and continues shooting at me (the finger) and in case I didn't know what that meant he was screaming FU. So, I again plead with him to pull over and show me what kind of a cowboy he really is. I am on FIRE!! I want to hurt this man. Brokeback MF
I get behind him and follow him off the exit. My boss is calling again and I answer he says the guy is back on the phone, said I cut HIM off and he has a gun and if I continue he will shoot me for real. I say I am sorry but I have to spank this man for his constant disrespect. My boss is screaming to just get back on the freeway and go home. So I get back in my truck and take off. I go to the shop and had to swallow my pride a0nd be talked into calming down.
Fast foward to now (1 hr later) and I am here at home ashamed at my behavior. I just lost it. All for nothing really. So I had to slam on my brakes. So what! I still want to spank this jackoff guy and maybe one day at a gas station or Publix, who knows when I will see him again. My company logos stick out like a sore thumb. I may have to defend myself when I least expect it. Really stupid move on my part I guess. I'm only 5'7" 140 soaking wet. But at that moment I was 10 feet tall and bullet proof. That guy would have bent me up and stuffed me into the bed of my own truck.
Thanks for listening

I too have lived all of my 39 years here in south fla and yes its seems to get worse with every passing year. I drive a aerial bucket truck with a company logo that any body can call in my truck # and make any claim they want .
When we are on the clock we have to let things slide more than you would in your personal vehicle.
I know that idiot pissed you off and first reaction is anger /retaliation.
That how any day can take a drastic turn for the worst.
I've learned to lets stuff go or I'll lose my mind or something else on a daily basis.
Next time someone drives by you in a wreckless manner ,comfort your self by knowing that somewhere that idiot will wreck so ,let him go on his way .
Its not worth it.
Take it easy on the road .

The best thing you can do in that situation is, drop back, call 911, give description of vehicle with lic. plate # and say the driver is acting irratic and dangerous. If that doesn't suit you than I suggest you start packing heat. " Don't bring a knife to a gun fight ".

I've definly seen alot of people get pissed at stupid things, i just think its a waste of time and causes accidents. I guess i must be a real unusual teenager, because ive never really cared, i just make fun of how stupid they are, especially when i get up to em and see em in a wreck or pulled over by a cop, or if i pass em because i just kept a steady pace instead of their fast slow, fast slow... I always do the speed limit, and dont really care one way or another, i have only been drivin for 3 years now, and a passanger for 18, but i have found out that there is no point in being in a hurry because u stil get there at the same time no matter what. I dont like when the old people deliberately go like 20 under the speed limit when you cant pass em, but i dont let it get to me because il eventually get wherever im goin, i also try and do everything i have to in a single drive and drive as little as possible so that i dont have to put up with the ignorant drivers on the road. Whenver i get cut off, i usually just back off and leave a gap, because u never know when some idiot will stop fast or hit someone(especially here in oldfart town), so i just play it safe and make sure i have more than enough room in all directions to stay clear of the idiots that think they are gonna get somewhere faster. I just save my "need for speed" for when im ridin my quad

I've been affected by road rage a few times. About 2 years ago I was driving down 17-92 and this guy was hogging up the fast lane. I wasnt on his bumper or anything, but I was close enough to where he should have gotten the idea to move on over. He started giving me the finger and all, which I laughed at and needless to say backed away from him more. We come to a stop at a red light and I see him reach into his back seat and pull out a machette, he waved it around as he looked at me through his rear view mirror. I took down his license plate number just incase, lol. But thank God the light turned green!
Then about 3 months ago I was driving home from work, again on 17-92. I switched over to the left lane, the girl behind me did the same but she was right on my bumper. At the same time I switched lanes, a car 2 cars in front of me slammed on thier brakes in order to make a turn that they almost missed. So, as a chain reaction the car in front of me hit thier brakes, I hit mine, but the girl behind me was so close to me that she had to pull into a parking lot to avoid hitting me. I didnt think anything of it... until we started moving again and I see her pulling up on the side of me, yelling all sorts of obscenities and just making an azz out of herself. I noticed the front end of her car had already been wrecked so after a few seconds I replyed back to her that if she wasnt riding my azz she wouldnt have had the problem she had, and that she obviously didnt learn the first. Of course that didnt make her happy, lol. Next thing I know she is pulling in front of me switching lanes back and forth so I couldnt get around her, and slamming on her brakes every few seconds trying to get me to hit her. At this point I was starting to get a bit freaked out, it had been over a mile! She kept yelling and swearving and hitting the breaks, so I turned up my stereo full blast, smiled at her and slowly rolled up my windows, lol. That I guess infuriated her, but after about another mile she finally pulled into a shopping center.... and to think, all I wanted to do was go home from work, lol... what a psycho!. The worst part about it is that she didnt look to be much older then me, lol

The whole southern hospitality thing is gone...
how can you have that when the 95% of floridas population are yankees...
Then they have the nerve to say (in a 80Yo blue haired NY city voice "Wheres all the southern hospitality Ive heard of".
They come down here and expect us to change...... go figure..... I think all the southerners should move up north during the winter months so they can see whats its like to be invaded...

We have all been there, it's ok to have a bad day once in awhile. Traffic has really gone from bad to worse. I finally had to move across town because I couldn't stand it anymore.
I think I made someone mad a couple weeks ago and got flipped off. I so bad wanted to return the favor, but I just ignored them as he continued to be a jerk, and I calmed down quickly. Then they were the ones who looked really foolish.
(Actually, I think I left them to eat my dust; was driving the 328i)
Shake it off man, tomorrow is a new day.

As much as I am on the highways of this state, give this a try. Make sure they're looking at you, point right at 'em, and start laughing hysterically.

What I don't get are the ones in the fast lane going either just a little bit slower or faster than the guy in the slow lane. You know like when you're boxed in...I won't lie I have a lead foot and the other day this old guy was in front of me and then another car was on the side of me after cruisng for a minute like this with the old man staying steady with the car in the other lane I decide to speed up and start riding his tail he brake checks me a few time and finally gets the hit that he NEEDS to move cause I will not back off. So he finally speeds up a bit gets over and flips me the bird and was yelling something at me (I couldn't hear over the stereo and wind)...I was just like wth if I want to go faster than you and possible get a ticket what the F is it to him. And I might add the speed limit was 55 he was doing 50 I wanted to do 60. Why can't people just move (if they can move) for the others that want to go faster?
The other thing that gets me too are the people who try to get over and don't see you so as they're comming into your lane you honk and swerve to the shoulder and they start swearing and flipping the bird at you! What did I do? Like Dane Cook says "Ummm Hello?" I was here and you didn't see me, your the one in the wrong buddy.

I don't think I've had it as bad as you bro but I have had it. I don't carry a gun but it's always nice to have a high hp sports car.
I'll go real slow and when they get into the oncoming traffic to pass me I hammer it! Needless to say they don't try that again. I did one time empty out all the spare change I had at these 2 dudes in a car that flicked their cigarette onto my car. But as stated above it's not worth loosing your job over. Just have a beer.

It can be tough sometimes. Just remember, the best revenge for anything is living well.
Anyone who drives like that guy is obviously a miserable idiot. Just think how sour his life must be. Think about what a sissy he actually is because he called and cried to your boss. Then smile and enjoy the fact that you're nothing like him. That's what I do.

I feel your frustration. But, you'll really see some road rage if your hand-signalling and verbal conversation with motorists causes me or my family to be involved in any subsequent accident. That, I promise.
