Polaris 800 Overheating...

Well it's like this...I found this little mud hole last weekend, and thought I would be bright and try and run through it...made it once, but not the second time...had to get pulled out backwards...Well here's the problem...when during all of this, somehow mud got all caked in my radiator...luckily I knew this had happened to a friend of mine so I was careful to try and wash it out...looked pretty good, till I headed back to our camp....40 minutes away....and it started overheating...even found some water and ran back and forth in it for like 10 minutes....still not clear....had to limp back 10 minutes at a time and let it cool so I didn't blow up a fairly new Polaris 800...

The moral/question is...Mud+Polaris=overheating... Anyone else deal with this, or have any ways to avoid this, short of bring a pump and hose with you?

hard to avoid.....bring a pump and hose....unless they make an aftermarket screen

Thanks...there is already a screen, and a removable top panel to get access to the radiator, and I REALLY thought I had it washed out pretty good (from the front at least), but it was packed and dryed, and without a pressured hose I couldn't clear it even running through 2' deep water....Not liking that and will not be able to run mud in the future, unless I can come up with a cure...Anyone else delt with this?

You could Duct tape your front bumper so that it doesnt go through and get into your radiator.. Thats what us racers do in a mud race so we dont over heat.

Huh...? That might work as long as I don't have to run it that way too long..it sure did overheat fast when it was blocked with mud....maybe I can make a snap on/off plastic panel, I can open the upper cover that is for a winch opening and let air in from up high...Thanks for the input..
