Everyone i know who has bought a used one has had nothing but problems. I know its expensive to get a new one, so just make sure you know who you are buying it from.

You will love it. I spent a lot of years on standups. Get a 93 or newer Kawasaki 550 or a 750. The earlier 550 seized up a lot because they had cast iron piston port cylinders, the later motors were aluminum reed valve. The 650s werent that great and I never really liked the yamaha super jets.
Have fun, when you get it can I come ride it?

I've been looking for a standup for a while, but every one I have seen was total junk. Most people have said please haul that crap away.

two of my nieghbors have those kawi's 65o, those two are the ones i first learned on, whats so bad about them?
I've also tried the 750 and a yamaha fx 1.

i would love to get any of those stand ups i just mentioned but it's slim pickings rigth now. since my budget is gonna be way low i know im buying used. I'm definatly not a fan of buying an older 2 stroke, especially since i most likely wont know the owner, but that seems to be all their is lately. Every thing new is in the 6k range. My nieghbors all got their stand ups for less then 700, two of them even lucked out and got them for free, which im HOPING happens to me lol.

sure you can come over chillin and ride, as long as your bring the yfz for me to ride Cheesy

i used  to be  in  to the  jet ski  thing  myself .but  decided  to  sell them  xpensive  sport  alot more than quads.  i  had  01gpr1200 with  a riva stage 2 kit in it .   the  thing   was  super  fast  was  going  to get into racing  but  wife  said  hell no!  also  had  a  96xp  good  ski  fast , lots  of power  for  a small  ski   and  i  still  have  my  89kawi  x2  in my  garage  that  thing is  so much fun.  great  for  doing  submarines .  its  been sitting  on the  corner  for a while   since  it needs  a starter  and  battery.  just   be careful  what  you  pick up!      stand  ups  are very fun  you  can  pick  them  up  real cheap  just look in the trader. i dont  have the  96xp anymore  i sold it   a while back  . i only have  the  kawi  x2 .  the x2 is like a hybrid  of a stand up  and  a seat down ski . there cool , not many people  have them  any more.  you want it?   ill  prob  never  ride it  again  its just  collecting  dust  on the side of  the garage. Grin  it  need a few  parts to run . other wise  the motor  turns over fine.

The 650s just didnt have enough power to overcome their greater size than the 550s.  The 550s were easier to do freestyle on and I never got outran by a 650 on my 550. My 550 I bought new in 93 then I bought a 750 when they came out. It was bigger but it had a lot of power.
I knew a guy that had a FX 1 and it was a cool machine but they are hard to find. Good luck and dont let anyone talk you into one of those sissy sit downs.
