OK...here's the deal.  Looking to buy a new or newer quad.  sport type.  I am going up to chattanooga and buying a trx400ex for my son.  while up there I might as well get mine for cheap.  Can get a new 05 TRX450 for 4983 otd.  Or get a new 06 Predator 500 for 5283 otd.   Which would you buy??  The 450 has no electric start or reverse.  I don't know jack about the predator.

GET THE PREDATOR, unless you are into fast trail/ T R A C K riding. The 450 has a VERY!!!!!!! uncomfortable seat and is basically meant for pure performance. The predator's are just as fast if not a tad slower but offer a way better comfrot level with electric start, the only predator's that have reverse are the new 05-06 models, the older 03-04 did not. If your looking for a nice comfy, but fast bike go for the Predator, a strickly track/ fast trail with horrible comfort and a kickstarter then get the 450, although you can buy an 06 model TRX450 with kick or electric start.................  Hope this helps   Wink

Do you own a 450R or have you ever ridden one for any lenth of time. By what you said I would say NO!!! My 450R is not uncomfortable and easy to start. Never worry about a dead battery. I don't think your information helped because it's WRONG!! I would buy the Honda. Replacement parts are cheaper and easier to get. You won't be dissappointed.

i own a 450r and a friend has a predator, so i have ridden both.
the predator is pretty fast and does have good power.  i dont care for the forward seating position of the predator, and the suspension isnt close to that of the 450r.
when i bought my 450r i was sceptical of the kick, but now i love it.  it always starts by the 2nd or 3rd kick(unless i have the switch off...DOH!)
but the suspension and power are great, and you cant beat the aftermarket support of the 450r

I actually have a couple friends who own them and I have riden them plenty up at Croom and ONF. I just think the seating position of ALL 450's even the new R450 are horrible, that is in my opinion, those bikes are meant for going fast, and that's just about it, If it was my decision It would be a very hard one to make also. Hand's down the Honda is a better engineered and thought out bike but when it comes to comfort and ridability the Predator takes the cake.

Go with the 450r its fast and reliable its ment for track though but if your not that crazy for power and you like trail riding than the predator is your choice.

BTW...Whats the age of your son Undecided

Can't even take this into consideration, Honda by a long shot. It beats the predator everywhere!

Only rode both a few times briefly. I prefer the way the Honda 450 feels and rides and have never heard any owners express any complaints about it. And besides Polaris vs Honda.....hmmmmmmm Roll Eyes

Are you saying that his opinion is wrong?
And he has ridden on one of his friends
So your assumption is wrong

4fittyr  says 450r  rulz but theres always hidden cost  with the otd bs prices plus all the travel expense u'll end up spending more than buying locally  take it from someone who had buddies tell me that and then take me with and the price at that dealer changed freight prep dealer fees etc etc

Still undecided but leaning towards the predator.  I'm an ex-raptor rider and like the idea of reverse and don't need massive speed that often.  Do have fun on the drag strips but not a racer type guy.  More into riding trails and maybe riding wheelies and doing some jumps.  I'm 45 and like to ride with my son, Alex who's 14.  So, need something kinda comfy that's still a sport.

Eric, what up?  Hard to argue with Eric and his quote...polaris vs honda....hmmmm, yeah I know.   You can't beat honda reliability.  Polaris...who knows?

Yes, prices are otd.  only have to pay for gas to get there and back.  I've done it once before.  Drove to Chattanooga and back on a saturday.  Check out http://www.polarisofchattanooga.com and http://www.southernhonda.com

Thanks for all the advice and I know everyone is leaning towards the trx450ex but we'll see and I'll keep y'all posted.

I would get the 2006 450er with electric start. Can't beat Honda reliability and the new 450r is ALOT faster than the older ones. Put the HRC kit in it and I would say it's just as fast if not faster than my YFZ 450. I rode the new Suzuki R450 this weekend and my buddies new trx 450er and the 450er is definitely faster. The suzuki had the cheri bomb installed and the baffle out of the muffler. If I was in the market for a new bike it would be the Honda all the way.
