  I'm having some problems with my 660 Grizzly when it gets hot.
Last couple rides i went on after bout an hour or so of hard riding ,
when we would stop and rest for a bit, i would have troulble restarting, lots of popping and gurgaling . I would have to give it lots of throttle to clear it out then it would be fine. it also would do it if sat and Idle to long. At speed though it was fine. it smelt very rich almost like the float is stickin. I'm gunna clean the carb and put a new plug in it but im not sure thats it. Ive heard of something like that on other sites were the gas in the carb would heat up and boil and vapor lock..well if there are any other griz owners who could help that would be great its an 2004 660 grizzly with less the a 1000 miles on it

Sounds like Vapor lock to me. The way the newer quads are built they enclose everything in plastic, their is no way to dissapate heat when the quads are at idle. Ive seen some people drill holes into the side plastics using a drill bit used for door knobs. Or they take the side plastics off all together.

have you done the over heating upgrade on yours, I seemd to have read somewhere taht 660 Grzzleys ahd an overheating issue and that there was a fix the yamaha has recently released. if you are over heating it will cause you a lot of problems

the hot light is not coming on though no upgrades execpt exhaust and jet kit

 Hey oneslowexer , the first thing You should check is the venttube on your gas tank. I had a similar problem and my vent was plugged, the gas in tank was boiling and the pressure flooded my carb. the grizzly,s run hot due to lack of ventilation around engine. I recomend drilling 1/4 in holes in a pattern of your choosing. It helps the bike run cooler, the heat kit yamaha came with is not to good. Another thing I did is remove the tank and lined the bottom with a 3/16 in foam adhesive insulation used for a/c lines, I covered the foam with aluminum tape then put the tank back on. also try making a metal heat sheild to put over the exhaust pipe under the gas tank to sheild it from the heat of the exhaust. thanks Im pretty sure thats what it is. Im didn't see it acuatly boiling though but i still think its a heating of the gas problem.
What part of the side panels did you drill your hole?
have you heard of wrapping your hearder in exhaust tape. I think that may be part of it to because the heat shield is fallin off.

my old grizz did the same thing and when i brought back to yam they had to rejet the carb and it was fine after . i

The old grizzly side panel air flow was restricted, after 04 they made them with more air ventilation on the new one. Drilling holes will not help. Grizzly are the only quad that I know that has side cover I suggest to remove the side cover when using under hard condition and making sure that radiator and air vent on gas tank are
clean.

I have the hole side panel drilled to ventilate the engine compartment with out having to remove the panel while riding. I also wrapped the exhaust with header wrap I got from summit racing, that really helps. Your panels have more openings than My 02 grizzly, but there still not enough. You could ride with them off or givem more ventilation. Cool
