Well, a 85 is a good bike, but he will out grow it if he isnt already too big for one. If you are thinking 85, go for a 125, he would be better off with a 125 over the years.

Actually, I suggest a CRF250, the four stroke. Great power and its a four stroke so no mixing fuel.

Don't get him an 85 way to small, he'll grow out of it in no time. I'd get hima yz125 or a 250f. If your looking for newer bikes stick with Yamahas YZ125s the other brands haven't been updating their 125s and Kawasaki doesn't even sell their kx125 in US anymore. I think a 125 would be the best pick easy maintenence and not to overwhelming.

EDIT: I'd stay away from the four-stroke unless your into changing the oil everyother ride, especially Hondas you need to change two different oils as the clutch and engine use seperate oil resivoirs. If its not a problem he four-stroke has a wider power-band and is more userfreindly because it doesn't have the midrange "hit" of a two-stroke.

The new 4 stroke bikes are great as far as him being on the side
who cares most of the best in the world are short.

Well not really, Ricky Carmichael thats about it. Davi Millsaps Tall, James Stewart tall, Travis Pastrana freakishly tall. lol Being tall is an advantage even Ricky himself admits that being short really makes it hard for him to get his suspension working right. The taller you are the more leverage, not bashing on the short guys just making the tall guys like me feel good about themselves lol. Only advantage for the shorter guys is when they slip up and make a mistake its easier for them the recover and get centralized, which might contribute to Rickys consistancy.  Nerd
