I am going to be purchasing a winch for my bike and am not sure which one to get.  Any suggestions?

I like the Warn 3000lb winch.  It's sealed, so the mud and water stay on the outside.

I bought a 3500 PD Viper off e-bay. Works great so far. The only thing that I have found that isn't as good as the Warns I have used is that you have to make sure you work the cable on correctly when you are winding it back on by hand. But for $129.00 mount included... I like it.

Do you have any idea why it doesn't seem that alot of the winch kits aren't compatible with a 2005 polaris?

The front is really enclosed from what I have seen. Alot of plastic and not enough metal to mount to it.

If you haven't already bought one...it's because you have to have the specific mounting bracket for Polaris....or buy the bracket from polaris...There is a removeable upper cover on the sportsman's where the winch will mount...

Yea the winch kinda hides its self up in the front. Anyway, my dad has a 500 sporstman and got the factory installed 2500lb warn. Let me tell you, no matter how bad you get it stuck the winch will get it out as long as you have something to hook it to. I had it so bad one day that i had to step up out of the mud to get the winch rolled out. And i accidently left it in park. Still the winch pulled it right out. In park and frame dragging. The only thing i dont like about it is that there is no remote. But that is easly solved. So if your in the market then warn is the best known and proven.  Grin
