I have an opportunity to buy a very nice (basically new) 2005 KFX 700 at a great price. Not too familiar with these bikes and I've heard good an bad about them. Anyone have any experience?

I ride a 2004 KFX 700 and there is nothing like a V-Twin cranking up and sounding off. Its big for a sport bike so when the 450 boys fly by do not get upset. But all the rest usually are hard pressed to keep up. It needs very little. I am 270 lbs and ride like a mad man when I want to or trail ride with the wife. I have had NO mechanical problems. I would love a dual exhaust and a couple mods but not really needed. Suspension is harsh in the whoop sections, so that is another mod if you have the cash. I have ridden at Seminole on both tracks and am very comfortable with some mild air time. It will jump if you want to. good luck. I hope I helped out.

Everything Vforcedave said is true. But if you want a sport bike and don't want to shift it is the ticket, I picked up a left over 2005 with every option Kawasaki has including pro-circuit duals, it is a beast, it is very fun to ride, hope to try some of the quad scrambles on it. I think there are pro's and cons to every make it is just what you prefer and want to do with it. Goodluck!!

They sound killer with aftermarket exhaust, see them at the dunes. A friend of mine who owns a local bike shop for 25years says they are junk, but he rides 20mil stroked banshees... He just said the tranny is the weak spot on those.

You just called my ride junk. She don't like being laughed at. Now go and apologize. lol. What movie was that?

it sounds bad azz with a set of true daul pipes, however it is like driving a car it so big, and if you like shifting than you dont want this bike, but the cvt transmition is prety cool. it is shaft drive and i think its got drum brakes in the rear Undecided, this would be good if you like a litle mud here and there tho. also the rear suspension has no linkage and the suspension over all isnt that great.

if you realy like true sport riding than this bike realy isnt for you

You are correct, it is not a sport racer, the dual exhaust does sound like a harley at idle, the auto transmission is actually real sweet because there is nothing for that hand to do so you do not get fatigued or in between gears ever. There are some mods to change the way the bike leaves the line. It is a shaft drive with dual discs in the rear sealed in fluid and dual discs up front. This bike does not fit everyones riding style although it does cover a heck of a lot types of riding. Kawiriders.com has a whole forum on this bike as well as the 400 and the 450. I have seen pictures of this bike set up for sand dunes, street drags with wheelie bars, Dessert racing, hare scrambles etc. As you can tell this is my favorite ride, and I have had a few. Stop by and take it for a ride. VTWIN (there is a I in win) Lets roll.
