I have a polaris 325 that I am putting together for my son. This quad is like new but has not run in over a year as I purchased it wrecked and just got the parts to put it back together. It was running fine last weekend but when I went to try and start it today there was no fire from the coil. I changed the coil first thing and still nothing. I took a 12 volt light tester and unplugged the stator and turned the motor over while checking the wires from the stator. I'm thinking the stator is bad. Could it be that the magneto on the flywheel just needs a good cleaning. Last weekend as soon as we got fuel to the carb it busted right off and ran perfect without any smoke or any problems other then the needle valve in the carburator, which I replaced.

yunt. i dont know much about bikes(being an auto mechanic and all)but i do know that the stator is basicly a coil winding. so you need to check the resistance across the coil wireswith an ohmeter. if you have an open circuit then the stator is bad.
i'm not sure but you may also check for output(a.c. milliamps) as well.
dont take my word on it but i am sure about resistance across the coils in the stator.

oh yeah i forgot you, you also have to check to make sure the coil isnt grounded.

The coil is mounted the way it should be. We did not disconnect any wires and it was running fine last weekend. The only thing we did was charge the battery up |

i'm sorry i meant the stator coil isnt grounded(not ignition coil). i had previously stated open circuit but it can also be a grounded circuit as well.

Does anyone know of a fuse in the wiring. It has these soft black plastic things in the wiring. I thing those are fuses but there is no way to open them without cutting into them. It was not the stator and it seems as if there is not a hot wire coming out of the CDI box going to the coil. I have a parts quad just like it that I took the CDI box off of and still not getting any fire. I looked at the wiring harnesson partsland.com and it shows a 20amp circuit breaker and thinking that those black things are fuses. HELP

those are breakers. i will beat you it is the pick up bad. i have replaced alot of them. you can just by the pick up from ricky stator

FINALLY, called the polaris dealer today to find out if I was missing something and found out that is was something simple. Polaris has an electronic throttle control and the throttle can not have ove 1/8 inch of play. That was the problem with the 325, Now, the 500 quir firing on Saturday and found out that I could keep opening and closing the throttle and it would fire intermittingly. Still have not figured that one out but its gotta have something to do with the throttle also. I did adjust it out slowly and it did no good but if I patted the throttle it would fire but not stay firing. This was about to kick my tail.

Most coils will have a grounding or kill wire. Try disconnecting the kill wire from the side of the coil, clean the coil mount & flywheel magnet & leading edge of coil with sandpaper, reset gap & check for spark with kill wire unplugged. If you get spark if it sparks, then plug the wire in & if you dont get spark , the kill wire is bare somewhere & touching metal which is like shutting the motor off, no spark. Hope this helps
