I havea 03 explorer sport 2door, its awesome. only had a few problems with it. The side of the explorer has a 4 o 5'' panel going down it, its just glued on and its coming off, i have to replace the rear right tire about 6 months before the rest cause the limited slip doesnt work, not matter what happens the rear right tire is the only one that spins, and i have a 5 speed and my tranny is going out of sync... lol its a ford u cant expect much better

I have a good frind that is on his 2ed, 4 door, V8 Explorer and he has had no problems. He loves them. With trailer pulling package will pull real good.

They are a rollover waiting to happen. Get good insurance. I was in one on I-4, cruise control set at 67mph, left rear blew out unexpectedly, the suv spun sideways & flipped 4 times before stopping, thank GOD we all made it out alive. Our surfboards were trashed, but 3 of us lived. Several stitches, concussion &  bruises but alive. I would never allow anyone I loved to own one of these deathtraps. Sorry to rain on the thread, but you asked, good or bad.

I worked for the DOT road ranger program in palm beach county on I-95 for 4 1/2 years , i have exp. in accident investigation.
In that time i worked there i have seen 9 ford explorer , 4 jeep cherokee, 5 isuzu trooper and 1 chevy blazer roll over. the ford and trooper is a top heavy truck, the blazer rolled over after hitting a wall.

They hold up well. I have a 96 4.0 pushing 180k.
Keep the trans oil clean and full. Window motors are big bucks.
Several years have had recalls/TSBs for rear glass hinges or latches. I've seen more problems with the V8 than the V6 but few overall.
It will be ready for plugs and coils soon.($$)
You may have to pull the intake for carbon build up on units with lots of idle time.
Good shocks and tires minimize the roll-over %. It's an SUV after all.
Our county fleet has several 01~05 on the road. No major problems.
