i have a 2003 Polaris predator 500 i had the top end rebuilt last week of march.
i have rode maybe 6 times, last 2 times it was hard to get it started up, but once i did and it warmed up it ran as it did all the other times. last time i started it, i  rode in my yard for a minute and when i hit the throttle it kinda bogged down. i parked it and now cant get it to start.  i have changed the gas since i had the tank off to check the spark plug and to make sure it had a spark, everything was good there. when i turn it over it acts like it wants to crank at first then it just turns over. does anyone have any ideas on what it may be or anything else i should check? all help will be appreciated. i haven't rode in about 5 weeks. i need to get back on the trails

its cause its a polaris.  sorry, couldnt help myself.

if it sat for a while while it was being rebuilt or something the gas may have gone bad and gunked up the carb. if it got harder and harder it may have clogged the jets slowly until it now wont start. id take the carb apart and check it out and go from there. maybe someone has other ideas.

i bought it like it was with the motor needing worked on.
the guy before me had it sitting about 3 months.
when i took the motor out i tore it down to the frame and had the frame gusseted and powdercoated white.
so the gas was new.
i wondering if the carb needs some kind of adjustment since i unhooked everything but i dont know anything about carbs

id get a manual and set the carb to the factory settings like the idle, air/fuel screw, needle position, etc. i learned a ton about carbs by taking one apart. its really not hard and youll know everything bout them after you do it once or twice. clean the bowl and the jets out too. if you get a manual, it will show a diagram of every part of the carb. so youll know what youre lookin at.

The fuel drain screw on the bottom of the carb float bowl? If it has moisture in the float bowl it will act like that sometimes, try and drain it for a few seconds and see if water comes out. make sure you catch what comes out in a little cup. If it has water it and the fuel will seperate or look cloudy, if it has trash you will be able to tell as well.

Go to www.predatorowners.com. They will have you going in no time. Enjoy your pred, they are great quads. Ignore all lame remarks from those who are afraid to buy made in the U.S.A. Grin
