How much does your insurance run?  I need an idea on it because I'm looking into a bike currently.  Its a GSXR600 that I will be financing, so insurance is mandatory.  I'm 16 and have a need for speed, hope that helps Wink

I have a 2001 Honda Magna. I'm 41 with a perfect record. I pay $91 a year. I almost bought a 2002 GSXR750. Insurance on it was $761 a year. I would guess it would be over $2000 a year for insurance.

dont you need to have 10,000thousand set aside to  show the registration people that you can pay for stuff if you crash?

because if thats true i would deffinatley pay the insurance because 10k isnt much when its in the terms for damage...

When I got my yami R6 I was 22, had one ticket on my record, bad credit, and rented an appt, (all which counted against me).  The insurance co wanted something like 6K a year.

Also, just some friendly advice... If I had a bike when I was 16 I'd be dead.

Well I was planning on a diesel truck, like an older 7.3.  But with the price of fuel and my insurance at 2k/year... 2wheels is looking ALOT better than 4.

I would only be using it to commute to school, work, and wal-mart Cheesy

i bought it with a credit card. not borrowed from a bank. my dad cashed a credit card check for me (the ones that they send every freakin day) and it was a thing that you get 1.2% interest until the balance is paid off. so i owe nothing on the bike so there is no required insurance.

and, no you dont need $10,000 to show the DMV to get the tag. we paid cash so no insurance is needed. if you do not wear a helmet you have to have 10k to cover your damaged head. thats it though.

if i had to pay 6k a year for insurance, it would not be near worth it. youd save 4k a year driving a gas sucking diesel. thats more than the bike is worth.

That pretty much the same thing I did, we charged the motorcycle on a credit card so I didn't need insurance.  Fla doesn't require insurance as long as you wear your lid.  What you will need is to take the MSF course.

thats exactly how my dad got his too. yamaha had a deal with 0% for 12 months if you bought a bike and put it on a yamaha credit card. they did it so you didnt have to have insurance basically. and so they got rich when some people couldnt pay it off in time. we had ours paid off in 9 months though. its definitely the way to go.

i would not advise you getting a newer bike. i picked mine up in really good condition for 3k. i looked at some in bout the same condition for around 2.5k to 3.5k. then if you wreck it and dont have insurance, youre not out too much. if youre lookin at 3-6k for insurance a year, thats a few bikes. im not too worried about mine being wrecked. i would have already paid for it to the insurance company being 17. especially on a crotch rocket. i see why you want to get a bike though. i filled mine up for $6.44 today (it had some in it and it has a small tank). that will last for a good while too. probably 5-6 hours of joy riding. it has no gas gauge so i dont take any chances. lol.

Yeah but if its under your dads name that means if you crash it, you dont get reimbursed.

yup. what year is the gsxr? if i were you id get an older one. mine is way too fast to need. its almost 10 years old and will do 90 in 1st. id say with the mods, 165 tops. geared kinda low. its really quick to get there. if you buy older and cheaper, theyre disposable. you wreck a brand new 12,000 bike its not easy to recover from that financially. those insurance quotes are ridiculous. i could get a bike and a half a year with that $. just see if your dad has a credit card that he dont use and when they send them low interest checks cash one and there ya go. my minimum payment is $111 a month. i pay alot more but if something comes up and you dont have 200-300 handy, it helps to have a low payment. like i had crap for hours one month so i payed the minimum that month. i got tons the next month and made it up. thats the only way to go. make sure you finance enough to get the tag too. my helmet, tag, and all that was near 400 bucks. mainly cause i bought a shoei helmet. but still. and get one with good tires. theyre ALOT of money. $500 was the best quote i got installed. you only get about 5k miles outta them too in fla with the stuff they make these roads out of. they hook up though.  Wink

Lol its an 2006 GSXR600.  The guy is offering just to take over the payments and if I remember correctly he said he had like 7k left to go on it.  I have around 8k give or take from the sale of my SST and money I earn.  So I have enough to do payments on the bike, just not insurance.  I've owned a bike before, it was a CBR600RR.  It was all in my dads name, I just did the money.  I bought it from our neighbors before they moved.  It was a POS, was laid down and had a bunch of broken crap.  Had it for maybe 2weeks tops and sold it.  I rode it down my street once and it wasnt bad... then again it is a HONDA so you cant expect much Wink

I've also ridden my friends brothers bike which is a 06 GSXR1K.  That bike is insanely fast lol
