News Release
FWC bans vehicles and airboats on drought-stricken areas

May 2, 2007
Contact: Dani Moschella, (561) 625-5122

The Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission issued an order Wednesday restricting vehicle use on Holey Land and Rotenberger wildlife management areas, as well as a portion of the Everglades and Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area.

Motorized vehicles, motorcycles, airboats and all-terrain vehicles are prohibited on the Holey Land and Rotenberger and on Water Conservation Area 3A North in the Everglades and Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area.

The order, which will take effect at 12 a.m. May 4 and will remain in effect until rescinded, was prompted by an inordinately low water level in the areas due to a regional drought. These special regulations are necessary to minimize the likelihood of motorized vehicles or airboats starting fires that will harm wildlife and wildlife habitat.

It is a tinderbox out there. You wouldn't want to ride it anyway.

BONE dry is an understatement.

It is officially closed I hear. FWC is at the entrance. Don't waste the gas. Head on over to Macs tomorrow morning for some serious swamp thrashing. 6:00Am be there or be square. Smiley

Remember, it will be very hot in the afternoon..

Just till it rains. Trust me, it is VERY dry and if everyone went there tomorrow, it would be on fire literally.
I'm with the FWC on this one. Come check out macs. I'm sure everyone not going to L-cross will be there.

When sport quads are making it to the buggy bridge, you know it is seriously bone dry.

Also, trust me when i say you don't want to be out there when it is on fire. I once watched a sawgrass fire approach my treestand at about 30mph! It blew by so fast it was unreal. I'm glad i was high up. Sucks all I had was a gun and no camera.

It gets hot REAL quick out there. Probably be there all day. You've had to see pictures of me and my rig by now, so swing over and drink a soda with me if you get a chance. White F-250 here.

BTW: My guys are arriving at 5:00Am...now that is crazy!!! I have been told I am nuts as well, so I guess it might be true. Wink

We will let the folks at Macs decide tomorrow.
