I have been thinking about disc brakes and was wondering if there is any reason to spend the cash or just keep my drums up front.

just did a disc brake conversion ,very easy with just hand tools . there is high lifter or yasky's went with yasky's it was a little cheaper. had read a couple of articles on them and both favored yasky's
