On September 14, in a special meeting, the Columbia County Board of County Commissioners exempted Columbia County from allowing ATVs to ride on unpaved county roads.

The ordinance that Columbia County adopted states "The Board of County Commissioners of Columbia County, Florida believes it is in the best interest of the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Columbia County, Florida to exempt Columbia County from the provisions of Section 316.2123, Florida Statutes,..."

During the discussions however, the main topics discussed were the damages to county unpaved roads that ATVs cause, the transfer of state liability to the county, and the lack of definition in the statute as to what is supervision with respect to minors who ride ATVs.

Lack of definition in the statue....

When it comes to supervision of youth for any reason, there should not need to be a statue common sense should tell you to watch your children and be a active part in their lives.

Suwannee County is having a public meeting for exemption. I "THINK" it is next Tuesday Oct. 10th at 7pm. Law enforcement is stating Suwannee County has too many dirt roads to enforce the laws.

Idiots, yeah no one ever does donuts on dirt roads using their cars. Just a weak ass excuse to ban ATV's.

Yep, Suwannee voted it out, we dont have many places to ride here but sometimes I slip out and ride back roads, better than nothing, me and my girlfriend have 5 Atv's and no where to ride, Hell I ride on back paved roads as well, hope to meet some more people to ride with, we have a nice size group here in Live Oak..

I'll be up in the area (just south of Ft White) starting next friday for about a week. Give me a shout if you're doing some riding.
