I just got this e-mail from John Waldron (DOF)

Dennis,

Please be advised that the next OHV Committee Meeting will be September 28, 2006 in Ft. Myers, Florida. Lee County Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the meeting at the City of Palms Park which is the spring training grounds for the Boston Red Sox.  The City of Palms Park is located at 2201 Edison Avenue, Ft Myers.  We will be meeting in the Press Dinning room on the 3rd Floor.  The meeting is scheduled from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm (promptly).  Due to the possibility of a large number of attendees at this meeting we will not break for lunch, but work straight through until 2:00 pm.  (In addition, there will be a grant review sub-committee meeting the night before (September 27th) at 6:00 pm at a location to be named later).

Highlights of the regular OHV meeting will include approving the recommendations of new OHV grants: discussion of the new ATV riding law Chapter 316.2123, F.S.; strategic planning for the OHV program; current status of the OHV program and possible sites; and public input.  A draft agenda is attached for your review.

The OHV Committee Meetings are scheduled quarterly and are conducted at various geographic locations in Florida.  This is an excellent time for interested parties in south Florida to attend.  These meetings are designed primarily to identify and help develop legal areas for the public to ride ATVs and Off-Highway Motorcycles in Florida while safeguarding public and privates lands from illegal riding activities.

Please make sure you have this on your calendar and call me if you have any questions.

John C. Waldron

Forest Recreation Coordinator

By the way .... Lee County is in the process of opening an OHV Park.   Be at this meeting and you could have an OHV park in your area soon.

I am going to try to be there.

Brooke,

Thanks for bringing this new State law to our attention.  I forwarded your inquiry to John Waldron (the State Division of Forestry Recreation Coordinator – the man you that ran the meeting at the Palmetto Golf Course).  The OHV Advisory Committee was not aware of this new law, but has now put it on the agenda as a discussion item at 12:15PM in their next meeting (please see the attached Draft Agenda).

I will keep you updated as I hear more from Mr. Waldron.  I will be attending the meeting on the 28th, and will give you an update of the Committee’s discussion.

Sincerely,

Andy McCall, Park Planner 2

Guest at the meeting:

Lee County Parks & Rec
Owner Ian from Sunsports Cycles
Owner Sean from FL Motorsports
Owner Kurt from West Coast Kawasaki
NOHVCC (National Off Highway Vehicle Conservation Council)
Florida Trail Riders
2 Local ATV repair shops (Ft Myers)
Riders from atvmiaxtreme (Miami)
North Port Off Road club

(The ba$tards from the SFWMD) will probably show.

Members,  pass the word about the meeting to friends, family, riders that enjoy our recreation.  This meeting is for the state of Florida not just Ft Myers. I have contacted the local media and news paper reporters and this is a hot topic for them.

Please be advised that this is NOT a rally.  The OHV committee is on our side to help us with legal riding areas throughout the state.  Don't show up covered in mud like Unclerico did at the last meeting screaming "I WANNA RIDE BIAAACH" and a bud in his hand.

Correct Thrumud!  The OHV can only help us with PUBLIC land. I attended the last meeting in Miami.
This meeting will give you all the info you need to get the ball rolling for a OHV park.
