We replace the stock unit with a DP kit in my son-in-laws Z400 about a year ago and it performed well. He just replaced it with a Barnett clutch kit. I have only ridden it once but it had a good feel. Any of the major brands should be fine.

your stock clutch plates and fibers are always better than aftermarket. if your looking for clutch baskets thats a better upgrade hinson wiseco etc..... but use oem plates and fibers they will last longer .

His last clutch lasted 3 months, and he doesnt ride the clutch bad at all. I think this is his third time replacing his clutch on his 06 bike! Something is wrong with his bike.

yea, i just had a barnet dirt diger kit in it and it was doing fine and as the day went on the bike just got slower and slower without me even being on the clutch it eventualy got down to me going like 25mph in 5th geer on the rev box, i tryed adjusting it and nothing, i just took the clutch cover off and yes my coolent is eating at the clutch cover but not bad enough to be geting into my engine oil quite yet. and the plates were just worne out Huh is there no oil geting to my clutch? i cant fiure it out

its an 05 but the bikes only like 6 or 7 month old the warenty just ended and that cluch wasnt even used most of those 3 months, it has 2 croom trips and a couple rides at ext on it and thats it

theres something wrong either gearing or clutch instalation . sorry your answer cant be over the web you need to let somebody that is familiar with clutch installs to take a look at it.did you pre soak the fibers and plates before you installed them. there is alot of questions that need to be asked and answered.youdont have to ride the clutch to make it go bad . it could be out of adjusment that would wear it out faster.

i adjusted it properly and yes i did soak them in the same oil i used in the bike before puting them in the bike they are all in there properly and seem fine... Huh

 I am not here to argue. i have installed clutches in just about every quad out there  im just saying somthing is wrong you should get 2 years at least out of a clutch without looking at it is almost impossible to fix it for you.

i think i may know my problem, someone on z400central said that it hapened to him and its because the oil pump can lock up therefor my cluch was runing dry...

call trinity racing they sell clutch kits. they use stock plates but they are out of a street bikes with new springs. they work great. use them in a 140hp banshee. they will work for you

If your oil pump is locked up there would be more than your clutch not getting oil, the cam and head would be shot in a few minutes.
What type of oil do you use, motorcycle or automotive?? this could be a factor also. I have 2 400's that have been raced for 2 plus years and never had a clutch failure.. and as far as what plates, some people like stock but I have had good luck with the kevlar plates.  KEN
