Jeff Wadding of Rural Valley, the ride chairman for Sunday's event, said the riders were traveling along School House Road at about 2:40 p.m. when the incident occurred.
"It was pretty strange. The deer landed right on him," he said. "I don't know how badly he was hurt, but I know his helmet was beat up pretty bad."
"Other than this unfortunate incident, the day was a great success," Wadding said. In all, about $2,000 was raised for cancer research, he said.
Wadding said the riders were traveling along township roads, escorted by fire crews from Dayton and Rural Valley.
Saturday evening, residents at the Kittanning Care Center along Route 422 in Kittanning Township got quite a scare when a deer jumped through the window of a room while a patient was lying in her bed.
Mark Fox, a spokesman for Grane Healthcare, the nursing home's owner, said the deer crashed through a window around 7:30 p.m. and eventually was subdued and euthanized.
"We've never had an incident like that before," Fox said. "It must have been pretty scary to see a deer running though the building."
Fox said the deer ran through the doorway of the first room and into a second patient's room, where it was trapped when an employee closed the door, and eventually subdued by fire crews from Kittanning Township Fire Department and state police troopers.
"Luckily, no one was injured," Fox said. "The woman in the first room who was in bed was very lucky that the deer kept on running after it crashed through the window."
Fox said the resident of the second room was in the bathroom at the time and was not injured.
"We had the mess cleaned up that evening, and for now the window is boarded up until a new window can be installed," he said. "We've been working closely with the Department of Health to investigate the incident."
