if i want to change the front sprocket do i have to replace the back sprocket too? can i still use my stock chain?

no u wont have to change the rear one and im almost sure u can use stock chain.

YOU'LL WANT TO GO UP 1 TOOTH ON THE FRONT SPROKET, ie IF YOUR RUNNING A 14 TOOTH OPT FOR A 15. YOU CAN USE THE STOCK CHAIN. LOOSEN THE CARRIER JUST LIKE YOU DID  ON THE 300EX ONCE IT IS LOOSE YOU CAN TAKE THE CHAIN OFF
TAKE OFF THE OLD FRONT SPROKET AND INSTALL THE NEW ONE. REINSTALL EVERYTHING IN THE REVERSE THAT IT CAME OFF.
