My wife just informed me that our neighbor's friend was killed this past week somewhere near Titusville. She was riding her ute while on a slope and the bike tipped over ramming the handle bars into her chest. Her ribs punctured her lung and she suffocated to death.  I will hopefully get more information tomorrow but this makes a good case for wearing a chest protector even when leisure riding. My neighbor said she was a veteran rider with over 20yrs experience.

She was apparently riding with a group and was the last one in line...her bike rolled...the group noticed a few minutes later...came back to see where she was and by that time it was too late.

That's really bad  Sad  Atleast we can learn from this, hopefully some people will start wearing chest protectors.. I know I am going to get one... Let's all pray for her and her family.

Yes...I will get some additional information today regarding the details...and will be wearing a chest protector for even leisure riding from now on.

Spoke with my neighbor...here is the story. She had been riding for over 20yrs...lived out near Titusville with her husband and five year old. They were out riding and on their way back, a bag fell off her bike. She apparently tried to turn around she flipped over and her handlebars slammed into her chest sending a rib through her heart.  After hearing this story I would encourage everyone to wear a chest protector. I know that the common philosophy is that only children wear them or wearing one while racing but this could happen to anyone at anytime on any trail. We all flip over at some point in time.

Do they make them in your size? I kill me.....lol.......

In all seriousness. That was a terrible tragedy and it goes to show you how quickly an accident can happen. We all have chest protectors and haven't been using them since we ride Utes now. This has opened my eyes.
