Well, I took out my new YFZ450 tonight and after 15minutes of riding, my pipe was glowing red. My fan wasnt turning on saying that it was overheating, because I know it would turn on sometimes.

Also, someone said that it sounded like the valves needed to be adjusted already.. Said he heard a ping.. but its not smoking or anything like that.. Does it just idle that way?

Sorry guys about asking this stuff, but Im just worried im taking it too rough on it.. I hear so many different ways to break them in these days..I am not holding it pinned for a long amount of time, but I have gave it some Go Go juice. Let me know whats up. Thanks!

All I know is that if you let them sit and idle, yes, the pipe will glow red.

At least that is what I have read... and seen on my YFZ.

The header pipe glowing red is normal. Don't worry about it. You just can't see it in the day time but it is doing it.

they are jetted very lean from the factory to pass emissions, this makes glow and run a little hot. Dont change any thing on the bike without jetting it. If you take the baffle out or run without the air box lid it will go from lean to very lean and run like crap.

Another question, Do your YFZ's gears seem REALLY short? I guess if they do, did you change the CDI?

The gear ratio is close yes as far as the jetting issue I have the Daddog Rider videos if you want a copy I'll send you one. It is where I got my first lesson in modifying My quad. at least up until they went to alcohol and stroker kits. I run the Jet4Power system  on my YFZ and it has been a great add on when it comes to jetting/jet changes
current jetting is 50 pilot. YZ needle on the 4th clip and a 178 main. 1.5 turns on the mixture screw.  any questions just hollar.

Go up 1 tooth on you front sprocket. It will help widen your gears and make the power more useable. All of my friends with YFZs have done this and like it.

the yfz was built for the track, hence the short gears. also the gear ratios are chosen according to the engines performance and application used it is going to be used for.

red glow=lean mixture. i dont know about bikes but if your pipe is glowing what do you think is going on in your compression chamber. i'd rather run a little rich(cool) then lean(hot)
