hello new to the forum and the sport

hello all,

im wanting to get into the quading sport. new to this, not sure if im too old to start it up (23),  i was wondering if there are any places here in florida (croom) that might rent ATVs? never riden one so i dont know what its like. i would like to see what its like before going out and putting 7k down on a yamaha or honda...or maybe if there are any local grps in the tampa area that wouldnt mind me tagging along for a day or whatever just so that i can see the sport in action.

Hey welcome to the sport.  You are never too old to start.  A bit of advice though.....

First, don't ask to ride others bikes.  We have more broke bikes from loaning them.  No there isn't anywhere here to rent quads other than on the beach and that's not real riding.

Second, there are plenty of used quads out there in fact there are a few for sale on this site.  Don't waste the money on the top of the line fastest bestest quad out there.  Learn on a smaller but compatable bike for your size.  Then you will have a chance to see what you like or don't like about a bike.  That way if you do go out and spend that kind of dough on a bike you can be assured you will be happy w/ it.

Third, the fastest, nicest bike out there will hurt you badly if you've never rode.  Have respect for them and the terrain.  You can easily get hurt.  Wear your helmet.

Fourth, in chosing a bike do you want a sport quad or utility?  If you are looking for a sport T2Raptor has a very nice blaster for sale.  They are good starter bikes for sport.  Utility is another thing....do you want 2 or 4wd.  There are so many out there but stay away from the King Quad, Brute Force, Prairie, or anything else in the 600+cc range.  I say this only because you say you have never rode.  These bike are great but extremely fast for utilities.

You can ride w/ anyone on the site we ride all over.  One catch you have to have your own quad.  If you are very lucky you may find someone that will let you borrow one.  Don't count on this option.

Take a look at our classified section.  T2Raptor is an upstanding guy and keeps his quads mint.  I know this quad and know what shape it's in.  A very good choice if you want sport.

Qt314NFla Could not have been said any better. One thing I would like to add which I am pretty sure it was mentioned before... Be sure to ride with other, more skilled people when starting out. Don’t be afraid to say you don’t feel confident when trying an obstacle. I have heard of Yamaha having a free rider safety course with the purchase of a new quad.

thanks for the excellent info, i have looked at t2raptors's blaster and it looks in great condition. will be getting a hold of him to see what he is wanting for it.

i know yamaha does offer a riding corse, they also have a rider safety video tape that i got from the shop i went and visited here in tampa, its called Cahill's motorsports, or something of that nature and the sale rep Lourin, was very informative about seaching on the net and looking up for grps/peeps that can point me in the right direction.

atvtrailer also pointed out a nice little 2000 ex400 that is on sale.

opps forgot to mention, im interested in freestyle and trails. want something a bit versitle to let me play. i kind of was setting my sights on a yhz450....but i agree that 8k is alot specially on a bike that is as powerful and having never riden one before. again thanks for the info

jax might be abit too far lol. would a honda 400ex be a good choice as well? so far im liking the blaster but im kinda thinking that i might need something a tad bigger.

400ex's are great, especially as a starter bike. I'm not sure how tall/short you are, but an average 23yr old guy would be a little big for a Blaster, in my opinion. Good luck with whichever you choose, they are both good

im 5'8 and 170lbs...

atvtrailer gave me a link to what looks like a atv ebay site, but i didnt write it down. anyone have any idea of what i might be talkin about? i think t2raptor has his blaster in that one. so i can see if they have a 400ex or a ltz400... would like to be in the 2500-3000k section but i've been told that might be a hard find... thanks

its called the cycle trader! can be found at any local gas station! as for T2s blaster, dont buy it! its just to pretty to ride jk ! its a good running quad! and 2500 to 3000 is not very realistic for a 400 cc quad
