Can't Speaka Da Englesh

So, I get an email this morning and was wondering if I have reason to be completely angry?  Obviously the person who wrote the message cant speaka da englesh too well either.

In * room * there is a sign on the door that states do not enter, please use the main lab. I was wondering if you can have another sign place underneath or close to in Spanish saying DO NOT Enter, one of my housekeeper open the door and she don't read English and was yell at which was very upsetting to her. If this is not your area could you please forward it on to whoever could make this happen. Thank you for your help in this matter.

I work for a major government institution and can not believe we are allowed to hire people who can't speak english..

What concerns me more is that the housekeeper beat-out all of those english-speaking candidates for that minimum-wage job and that it's his/her fault that that laboratory merely relies upon a sign to protect the safety of anyone entering. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEse

Well, the door isn't even used for "safety".  It is always locked but the housekeeper opened it with her key.  Little did she know, the door has an alarm on the other side which went off!

If we're so intelligent, why can't we develop and implement better security and safety precautions to prevent unauthorized entry by or accidental injury to illiterate, distracted or poorly-trained employees/visitors?

Excuse me for assuming that there was any concern for others' safety and security access to a government laboratory. BTW, how come we don't see people who share your opinion helping to solve this problem by taking those kinds of jobs? After all, aren't we currently having the highest unemployment rate since 1973? If it was clear to me that this discussion was intended to rally hatred for people who can't speak English, I don't like it either, but, I don't just complain about it. Some say we should also blame the weak, sick and old for the Americans With Disabilities Act because all the good parking spaces are restricted!

Yes in fact we should run our county into more debt to make sure we educate all potential illegal immigrants are well versed in English prior to their arrival    The thing is that if I was to go to another county and seek employment it is my responsibility to speak their language. Same applies here, or at least it should, much to the pelosi-ites' chagrin.

What the heck, they are already getting into debt just trying to teach legal people how TO READ, if you notice in the first post, the person states the "HE WORKS IN A GOVERMENT INSTITUTION", you think our goverment is going to hire some "ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS" to work for them? Unless we are "NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN" are'nt we all immigrants? True about everybody is responsible to speak the language of the country he or she is going to be working at, but is'nt that the reason we live in a democracy, don't we all get a chance of getting a better life.
Anyway, when we all ride quads, there is no language barrier to stop us from having fun. LOL

When English-speaking Americans travel to other countries on business/pleasure, can't understand the Peligro signs, enter an unauthorized area and that causes harm or injury to someone, we'd consider that an accident. But, we won't grant that consideration to others. BRILLIANT

BTW, I'm the Executive Director of a pair of chemistry, hematology and toxicology laboratories. They're state and government licensed and inspected, at least semi-annually, as all laboratories are. For the safety, security and protection of all persons and the quality control of testing analysis/results, the law requires there be physical controls to prevent unauthorized entry. We use ID badge card readers, some use fingerprint scanners or combination locks, etc..

You calculate the cost of that minimum wage job and make sure to include the ESL teachers, welfare, food stamps, child care, social security for those that never paid in, health care, etc. coupled with  the fact that many immigrant workers are under the table and don't pay taxes to help replenish what they take, then you get back to me.

However, nothing could be further from the truth. Without the illegals, our kids would get a better education, our healthcare system would be in much better shape, crime rates would drop, welfare programs would shrink and the economy would adjust to fill those jobs left vacant by the illegals.

no counter argument here. i agree with you 100%. i am in no way in favor of illegals and i never stated that in my post. being that it was a government job the argument of illegals does not even factor into the equation. what i am saying is that this country was built on diversity. yes i believe that everyone should speak the language of whatever country welcomes you. however to judge a person based solely on "no hable ingles" is  a bit arrogant. some people believe that this would be their idealogical zen nation if we didnt have any immigrants(legal or not). i usually agree with your post anoriginal and i do agree with your position on illegals. my post was based on the post calling people idiots for hiring idiots that dont speak english.

Gery - diversity is great, but if we fail to instill some common factors that unite us we'll fall apart. There are so many that push so hard to separate us at every turn. And I feel a unified language isn't too much to ask. It's what has been here and is established. Diversity - great, but simply allowing our culture to be trampled and extinguished - no.  Put the shoe on the other foot - you can't just move a bunch of English speaking whites to Mexico and demand they adapt. And illegal immigrants not only cause undue stress upon our society, they disgrace every legal immigrant that has worked hard to come here the right way.

again i agree. i never said, nor i support illegal immigration in any shape or form. living in miami i see it all the time. not only do illegals take our jobs, what do you think they do with the money they make? they dont put it back into OUR economy, they send it back to their country and family(tax free at that).
my problem is the hardcore speak english or get out fanatics. like ive said yes you should learn the language, however there are exceptions. my grandparents brought us here from cuba in 1968(legally).my grandmother sewed in a factory in hialeah.my grandfather didnt speak one word of english but you know what. he was a great man. he worked in a factory as well to give us what he could and never took a dime from the government. we were not all blessed with the priviledge of being born here. however some of us were blessed with great grandparents wanting a better future for their grandchildren and having the foresight of seeing it possible in this country.

Not speaking English doesn't have any impact on your Grandfather, or any other person in the entire world. There are many great people both here and other places that will never speak English. And being bilingual is great, but my problem is the ones that are many generations in (legal and illegal) that refuse to speak the language of the country they have decided to become part of. Your Grandfather is a rare example of those that can't be expected to fully adapt to the English language - just out of age if nothing else  - not a problem and completely understandable - he may have still greatly contributed to our great nation. It's the people that simply don't think they should bother to even try that pizzes me off. If they want to come here they should adapt, not force us to bend to accommodate them - with the understandable exceptions like your Grandfather. But those that refuse simply drive a bigger wedge of segregation between our citizens and create further strain on our society. Obviously your family does not  fit in this category. Those that come here to better themselves and provide for their families are doing so and will not only do for themselves, but improve our society. People like your Grandfather are the ones that established this country hundreds of years ago, and continue to make it better today. And again I say that those that come illegally, mooch off the government, refuse to become part of our society and instead try to make this an extension of whatever country they came from, are not only disgraces, but insult the hard working contributors to society that came here like your Grandfather. Immigration is not the problem, it's illegal immigration and those that seek to further harm our society.
