On Wednesday, i visited what will turn out to be one of the prettyist riding sites in Florida. This project, the purchase of which is funded by the T. Mark Schmidt fund is to start with 200 acres on the southside of  630, 2.5 mi east of hwy 37. It is land that has been made available by Mosaic, a mining company and is being purchased by Polk County. It was reclaimed 50 yrs ago and has great terrain and open fields and tremendous trees. with a view of a lake. The contract includes an additional 1148 acres that should be ready in about 3-4 yrs. Mike Callander, Polk Cty Park Superintendent says the first part will includes trails, a campground designed around a novice riding area, so you can watch the kids, and a trail system, the additional 1148 will hold everything else people want.  The area has no neighbors, so there is no one to complain about it.  Money is currently in the County budget to do the design work.  It will be 1-2 years before it is ready, but it will be worth the wait.  I would post pics if someone would tell me how to make them smaller.
