seems so much different then were i'm from. I used live bait but everyone here seems to use lures. I also noticed that these little retention ponds can have alot of fish or no fish. What kind of stuff should I be using to catch bass and is there anyway to figure out what lakes are better to fish in.
Thank you.

golf course lakes are usually best, the older courses are usually better. if your not used to artificial, start with plastics, senkos, or tubes, or trick worms will almost always catch bass.

The all around best lure I have found is the bass assassin. I also hit em up with rubber worms (love red shad). I also usually do pretty well with rattle traps. It seems bass love to hit em right as you rip through a patch of hydrilla.
If I am just fishing smaller residential lakes I only take the bass assassin.

walmart will have all you need to get started, the way i started bass fishing was with is zoom trick worms(watermellon w/ red flake color)... they ALWAYS work. i started with trick worms, then progressed to some topwater like zoom horney toads, then came the crankbaits. jigs own over winter but right now the best thing for you is going to be a trick worm or a senko. right now im using a small crankbait on the caster and a baby bass colored senko on the spinner...

I fish Lake June in Lake Placid. Lake Istapoga yeilds some fine bass. The locals love the Blue Gill and use Crickets. I mostly use Rubber worms and when I just want to sit and relax I throw out a couple shiners.

I used to fish Lake Tarpon all the time. My buddy and I used to fish there Tuesday night tournaments. They were open to anyone. It was a blast and we did pretty well. Man I miss those days. Anybody want to give me a bass boat?
