My friends and I are planning our first weekend camping trip to Big Cypress.  I have read all the rules and regulations on there website.  We will probably have our bikes inspected and get all our permits on a Friday morning and stay until Sunday.  We don't know when yet but its in the works.  Anyways my question is how many camp sites can you camp at and ride your ATV's from.  From what I have read it only seems like Bear Island and Burns Lake.  Burns lake is only open 2 months out of the year and is already closed until November of this year so that leaves just Bear Island.  There has to be more places to camp and ride your ATV's from isn't there?  Monument Lake says no ATV's in the camp site.  Can you atleast camp there and trailer your bikes over to the designated trail?  Any info would be good.  Thanks.

Gamer:

Call the Oasis Ranger Station at 941-695-4111. Explain to them what you want to do. I'm sure they'll be able to help.

There are some nice campgrounds towards Everglades city off of 29. This is close and at most a 35 minute ride to trailer to the Concho Billy trail head. Good restaurants too.

Have fun!

I am not sure of the camp ground situation, but I can tell you that Bear Island is a primative camp ground and a 20 mile ride down a poorly maintained unpaved road. Trailering down Turner River Road is a rough ride.

Just some food for thought.
Bear Island is "north" of Alligator Alley. The ranger station is on Tamiami Trail. Quite a distance to drive. Y'all better get a map to see where what is what.
