JANUARY 2007 DP NEWSLETTER

Hello to all and hope you had a great Christmas and off to a good New Year

DP is still experiencing growth by leaps and bounds. We have added more staff to assure safety here at DP.   The new additions to our staff include EMT’s in house. We are trying to keep 5 on duty every weekend and holiday.  EMT’s are now patrolling the trails just as my regular employees do.  They are there for assistance if broke down and to offer medical services if needed.  This will also shorten our response time even more by 5-7 minutes.

Lots of new things are happening here at DP.  Many may have heard the rumor of no more racing at DP,  well some of this was true.  Sherre and I just do not have the mental or physical energy to manage racing and everyday duties at DP.  The staff is stretched to the max as it is everyday.

We have been fortunate to bring in Matt Walker of south Atlanta, former Pro Rider #122.  He is 25 yrs old, and retired this year.  Matt has started his own training program. Matt is rated as one of the top 20 most influential riders by Racer X magazine, SX main event winner, and multiple Amateur National Winner.      I have offered Matt an opportunity to use DP as a training facility for his current clientele and to offer his services to the many riders who come to Durhamtown.  Matt has been named Race director of Durhamtown Plantation.  He will be heading up our 2007 MX Kids and Adult series.  He will be in charge from registration to presenting the series championship trophies in Nov.  Matt will be assisting in our FEATURE events during the year as well.

This years MX series will run 3rd Sunday in March, April, May, June, Sept, Oct,  and run 2nd  Sunday of Nov. for the finals.  We will run the 50cc’s thru the 85cc beginners on the peewee track along with the youth ATVs in the mornings.  Advanced 85cc -450 cc will run on the SX track behind my house in the afternoons.  There will be more posted on the DP forum with the classes soon.  You are welcome to email with any questions.

Feb 25th - 6-HOUR ATV race at DP.   This event will have 8 classes and is sponsored by Tucker Rocky and DP.  It will be an 8 mile course. You may run in the Iron man Classes or 2-man team classes.  Just remember, you are running for the most laps completed within the 6 hours.

More on the forum about the ATV races

SUPERCROSS TICKETS available- We bought 80 tickets and have approx 30 of them left to sell at our cost of $53 each.   We got a block seats of 4 rows.  They are on the lower section 30 yard line (the past 2 years this was the section we got).

Call the front counter with credit card or email   sherre@durhamtown.com to get them mailed to you

New trails and tracks--
we have been busy working all the old red trails off of Bridge Out Road.   They are all new, opened at X-mas, approx 20 miles of them.   New MX 6 open 2 weeks ago.  Great reports for it, many say best one yet.   Guess Lindo is getting better at it after I left him alone…   some changes to the big track all good so far we are told.

Many are coming back down from up north. 1st time back since last year most are amazed how much we have changed.

We are adding a full line of Michelin bike tires to the new TIRE SHOP.  Indy Show is just a few weeks away.   We have some inventory we are liquidating to make more room for all the specials we will be buying up there.  Need some boots stop by the Proshop need a new PIPE ProCircuit and FMF   stop by the shop for a smoking deal……gotta go……

Julie in the proshop got a job offer she could not refuse we hate to see her go.  Old Pete is still there smiling and chumming deals   thanks Julie for your hard work at DP.

Hunter and Squeeky have mounted over 600 tires this year in the tire shop and have given out over 30 lbs of nuts and bolts for broken bikes and atvs. Stop by and thank them when you come down.

All I can say is it took a herd of cattle and a field full of pigs to make enough bacon and hamburgers to feed everyone this year.   I know we have served 50 acres of BEANS in the lodge.

Tony has repaired more bikes and atvs in 1 year than most mechanics do in 5 years in his shop.  They stay lined up at his door wanting it fixed FAST so they can get back on the trail.  Thanks Tony for all you do.

Justin and Jessie have more experience in cranking peewee bikes and picking them back up than any one I know.  Thanks guys, we appreciate you looking after the lil ones.

Jeremy has a new Job offer 15 minutes away from his house. He and his new wife Lauren can live together and not commute or stay in the camper.   We will miss Jeremy. He promises you will see him out riding on the trails with Lauren on the weekends.  Jeremy, thanks for all your help in making DP a fun place to ride.  We know all the hard work it takes, thanks again.

We are improving the bathroom facilities and making some changes on the front counter to help with the flow.  We appreciate your patience as we continue to grow.  For those early risers, come 30 minutes earlier to beat the crowds on weekends.

We are working on some big plans for a FREESTYLE event at DP this summer and fall.  As we finalize these plans we will give out the info.  And as always, more to come later.

12 HOUR BIKE RACE -3rd ANNUAL EVENT will be this September.

We want to thank everyone for supporting DP through our troubled times with the press last spring. We are still dealing with issues from the State.  They are trying to force sales tax on all riding fees and for all past riding fees.   If this goes thru, they will be charging this state wide to all facilities.  This will impact off road riding in a more severe way than any thing before.  We have hired a firm to fight this for the future of all facilities.  Let’s hope we win this one.  They just hit all hunting plantations and charter boats.  They are charging for 5 years back taxes, fees, penalties and interest…   it isn’t pretty…  they promised that they are not stopping at just DP.  If they win here they will move on to the rest……

If you are planning a trip this spring, call and book it ASAP.  We are filling fast in the cabins.

Same for RV’s on holidays, we will precharge for the RV sites on holiday weekends so you are guaranteed the site you reserve.

ATV DRAG RACES

We have real races planned for Sunday of Memorial Day weekend with separate classes.  75% payback and prizes.  This event will run all day on Sunday.  So come practice on the drag strip.

Skeet Shooting/Pistol/Rifle ranges

We have had a lot of women begin shooting some skeet over the past few months.

We are renovating the pistol-rifle ranges with new shooting benches and pistol benches for target practicing.  We also are enhancing the skeet area for more shooters to participate.

Fishing on the 27 acre lake should be prime for crappie starting in Feb and good for Bass in late March, and Bream in April.

I will be stocking the lake behind the lodge in 1 week.

LAND FOR SALE

I have 17 acres with 1600sq ft house, 4 barns, pond, fenced, 75% open,  ½ residential ½ commercial potential.  This property is located on HWY 44 between Union Point and Greensboro.  We can also build you an awesome track on the property.  The ground is great for a track, excellent topsoil. Had horses on it for 6 yrs.    $325,000

LAKE LOT on Lake Oconee .73 acres, 100 ft of water front,   6 -7ft water at dock site

Large hardwoods, 3 miles from the new Reynolds Parkway exit going in off of  I-20.

Paid $250,000 for it last October will sell for $250,000.   I have more land joining DP I am buying so I will let it go.

13 acres of commercial property located at the entrance of Cuscawillow Golf Resort on Lake Oconee.    Largest track left with all road frontage.  Will sell to buy more land at DP $275,000/acre or will co-develop.

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT IN MAKING DURHAMTOWN THE # 1 RIDING FACILITY.

Will sell to buy more land at DP $275,000/acre or will co-develop

And I thought property here was expensive. Lake Oconee is an upscale area, but good lord thats expensive.

I was reading this earlier and I think I am gonna like the changed they are making. They are great people that really care about the riders. I know they make a killing doin it, but it's nice they actually care about the customer at the same time.
