I have a poloris scrambler 400 4*4, it keeps runing hot.
I took the radiator cap off and started the bike up.
Hit the gas 1or2 times and the coolant sucked down in to the
radiator.
Does this mean tahat the water pump is working,and if so what is
yhe prob.
                       PLEASE HELP     THANKS

In order for Uncle Rico do diagnose your problem correctly, he will need to know the year of your Scrambler and how you know it is running hot.

Did an idiot light come on, or is the pipe glowing? Is your fan coming on? Did you check your thermostat and your fan module?

Does it run hot right after start up, in low gear, or after riding for a while?

The fan not coming on, the radiator clogged with mud? The radiator may look clean but when you take it off you will be surprized, or at least I was. the fan should come on @ like 180ish(that is what it is for my 2  cats) and shut off about 140.

Also if you bought yours new, between August 2004 through February 2005, you should know that Polaris did a 45,000 unit recall.

Here's your general troubleshooting tips for overheating...

If you are running lean, your engine will run hotter, have you opened up your intake some how, & or added or modified your exhaust, without rejetting Huh

If your radiator cap was not tightened to the 2nd notch, or your machine has gotten hot enough to warp the filler neck, or there is some other issue that keeps your cooling system from building pressure, your engine will run hot...

If your thermostat has stuck partway between open & closed, you'll run hot...

BTW... even if you think you have your radiator clean, it's nearly impossible to get it fully clean, with out removing it... I like to use a waterproof flashlight one one side when I'm cleaning, to better see through the fins... some types of mud, will leave a film on the radiator that insulates it, even if it looks clean... lots of people have started using "etching" type mag wheel cleaner to remove this film... with good results ( I personally wouldn't use it too often however, as "etching" types of cleaners may eat through the radiator after lots of use... some have started using a "pitch blend" cleaner / sealer sprayed onto the ATV to keep things from filming up, after they have cleaned the radiator with the etching cleaner...

I always take off my front grill after every weekend of riding. Spray a degreaser or something directly in the radiator, wait a few minutes, then hose it out really good. To get it real clean you will need to be able to basically put the water hose right up to the radiator. I have tryed other ways and it seems to run hot if I don't clean it this good. Do this and your problems will probably be gone.
