I figured I'd start a thread on some tricks to help you less experienced riders gain some advantage on the track.

The first tip I want to share is for dirt bikes only.

It's a guaranteed way to win the whole shot every time!

Gate position is the key here.

1)You want to choose the far left position.
2)Be in 2nd Gear, not first, (3rd if your bike will pull third).
3)Focus on the sign girl.
4)When the sign turns sideways, take your right foot, and kick the guy on your immediate right in the gas tank! (foot placement here is key)
5)Kick it as hard as you can, he will fall over to his right, and knock over the guy to his right which will create a domino effect.
6)By the time the gate drops, everyone should be laying over to their right on the ground, and you can take the whole shot.

THE ABOVE TIP BROUGHT TO YOU BUY UNLUCKY THIRTEEN RACING!

But on a serious note...I know some of you more experienced riders have some good tips out there, I figured this would be a good place to share.

Can you pick the far right slot and then kick with your left foot and get the same desired results? Just a thought for all of the southpaws.

For XC racing

1. make sure your hydrated, drink a lot of water in the days before a race.

2. be smooth on the course and keep moving, sometimes you have to slow down to be fast.

3. eat some carbs the night before, like pasta or rice

4. move over if you see me coming

the best tip any racer can give is...

#1-  PRACTICE!! !! and always race with guys faster than you so you can learn from them...
back when i first started racing i was riding with faster guys and it made me try harder to be as fast as them!

also, never stop trying to get better even if you are faster then everyone... always stay on top of your game and be learning new things and trying new setups!! this is how you find what works and what dont!! !!
cause one day you will have to race someone that is better than you so you need to be prepared if you are going to have a chance!! !!

No, that would be cheating and you'd probably get disqualified.

You can also add eat bananas to that, or as some of the pro's are turning to, taking potassium pills before the race.

A good practice tip for MXers is to invest in a stop watch.

Lap times are a key. By having your practice partner time your lap, you can get an accurate count on what times you're turning. (The stop watch doesn't lie, no matter how fast you thought you were going). You'll then be able to shave off additional time by finding quicker lines, and finding out where you can brake later when flying into the corners.

This also breaks up the monotany of running laps just for the sake of running laps.

Also, when you practice with a two or three guys, it becomes a friendly competition to see who can turn the fastest lap as well, as giving you ample time to rest between ALL OUT "SPRINT" LAPS.

"You either want to be on the gas or on the brakes, Never anything else"
