If your company was going to be doing business with a place that I will not name that just so happens to be "The Royal Palms is Rated # 1 gay resort in North America by Planet Out, the gay travel experts. ", is it wrong to ask to be taken off the show so you don't have to put youreself in that place to work for a couple days?

FYI, I already have, and my boss understands and took me off the show.

funny,,,,,the client we are setting up for is Reader's Digest,,,,at THAT hotel?

 Dunno

Your right I will.  The ONLY reason I can see that you (or anyone for that matter) would opt out of the show would be because you question your own sexuality.  If you didn't question your sexuality why would it bother you?  I'm not pointing fingers, that's just how I see it.

Why would you "opt" out your assignment? Homophobic? Strong religious beliefs? (I'm asking, not being sarcastic) I don't know what you do for a living, but as an employer of several dozen people, I can say that when an employee decides that he doesn't want to work on a certain job assignment, for whatever reason, it creates tension on the company. The company is going to do the job, regardless of one employees position, because it has to. Now the job has been done anyway, without the troubled employee, so it is realized by the company that he is not as important as he thinks he is, (read expendable). Just my thoughts.

Why is it that it seems every time you throw a comment at someone, or an insult,,,,you then TRY to cover it by saying "I'm not saying _fill in blank_"?

maybe if I were a computer I would take you at your word exactly as you type it, but with your history on this site, I think everyone and myself on this site know EXACTLY what you mean to say.

And you are wrong.

I am opting out of the job for the same reason I have already opted out of a show later this year that is a convention showing off the new technology in the porn industry and from what I heard usually turns into something that can only be described on the OTHER site,,,,,I don't want to be any place that I would be embarassed to be caught in if my parent's showed up, or my daughter.

I realize the behind-the-scenes things that can go on by my actions today, which is why I went quietly to my boss and asked to be taken off that schedule.

And about the expendable part,,,understood, and ever since the layoff at my last job I will treat every job as if I am expendable.  But as far as coverage for the event,,,there is plenty and I was merely moved to something different,,,and one of the new guys gets to travel and get the per-diem money instead of me,,,,so in this case everyone wins.

What field do you work in? Radio? TV? Newspaper? No need to be specific. I was just wondering. I can understand not wanting to work the porn convention, but I think you missed a good time not going to the gay resort. Those queer jokers can party! When I was dating my wife we went with a group of friends to a drag show at a gay bar in New Orleans. It was awesome, and they knew we weren't gay, so no one bothered us at all.

If the shoe fits!  Ida, Ida, Ida, if you don't want the answer then don't ask the question.  I don't know why you think I insult you and then try to cover it up, I don't know you so there is no way I can say that you question your own sexuality but in general people that do what you did I believe they do question their sexuality.  I'm as strait as strait can be and I would not opt out of a show if it was my job.  I know no matter what  the gay guy says or does is gonna change my mind so I have nothing to worry about so I would go about my job.  Do you think your so hot that every gay guy within a stones throw is gonna move on you like the Germans in Poland?

Ida, I hate to break the news to ya but when you get in your 40's some Dr. is gonna jam his finger up your a#$ and feel around your prostate so I hope you lose your fear of everything you deem to be gay or you could die an early death, maybe by then they may have a reliable blood test but until then sit back and enjoy  Rolling on the Floor Laughing.  Good luck

I agree with Ida. I don't care for that way of live so I stay away from it. If you want to be that way that is your choice. I don't want anything to do with any group of queers. In my eyes it is plain WRONG. I don't bash people like that, on the other hand I'm not going to support them either. I think whatever decision he made is the right one. To each his own, that's what makes the world go round.

I understand your point of view. My cousin, who is an awesome guy and a great friend, is the biggest Homophobe I've ever seen. He hates anything to do with homosexuals, which is way right of my live and let live attitude. What's cool is, at the end of the day it doesn't matter, we still hang out anyway.

As a sidenote: You should have seen when I hired a stripper for his 30th B-Day. Before the girl came out, we tied him to the chair and had a male stripper come out for a couple of minutes. He was soooo mad he literally broke the chair apart to get away. He didn't speak to me for a month! ahhh, good times....   Grin

agreed, Iv'e worked with some gay people before and they can throw down a good party,,,,but with this job I won't have any free time so that is a moot point here.

If I told what my company did, it would be very easy to figure out the specific company, so I'll leave that out.

Those who know me, know the company, that's good enough for me.

Id@

Anytime someone says "I wouldn't want to be seen there" about any place it cracks me up. look at it this way: If I go to a gay bar and I see you there, why should I be embarrassed? Obviously you were there too or you wouldn't have seen me.....

At least you have a reason, being work, to be there. What reason would anyone else who would "see you there" be there for. What's thier excuse? I wouldn't have opted out.....let me rephrase: I wouldn't risk my job to opt out. If it doesn't create a problem or you get paid leave then whatever you feel is best.

I'll tell a little story of my high school years, maybe that will set you straighter(no pun intended).  I was playing volleyball at lunch one day in my junior year when I was approached by a girl who wanted to speak with me privately,,,I knew her and told everyone I needed to quit the game for a few minutes and we went a little ways away so we could chat.  She then informed me that one of the more prominently gay guys at the school had a crush on me and wanted to ask me out but was scared to do so,,,and that she as his friend was doing it for him.  My reply was "tell him thanks for the compliment, but I'm not gay.".  The girl was a bit confused because she thought I would be angry and expressed her confusion,,,,so I explained to her that typically all the openly gay guys had the hot chicks hanging around them, and to be considered one of them was a compliment.

long story I know, but it's pretty much the same way I feel now.

nope, no problem, in fact one of the new guys to the company gets the per-diem money instead of me.

$135 extra per day of travel is a nice bonus when your'e usually spending about $35 of it on a hotel.
