Skill is the most important, and those are the best bikes out, just mod them for what you're gonna be using them for and you're good.

for your first race, ride what ever you got. You are probably not going to win but you will know if you like it or not. Its pretty demanding and not for everyone. Did I mention that I love it?

Cannondale/ATK.....
but everyone else will disagree....IMO I love it...
Pretty much all the new 450's are nice...
It all comes down to the rider....
Just cause Ballance wins on a Yamaha don't mean its the best....
Anyways.....just try to race on what yah got then step-up

those new polaris outlaws have the independent rear suspension, but I don't know haw reliable they are. Otherwise I would recomend a 450r yfz or z400. Heard somewhere kawasaki is supposed to be coming out with their own version of a 450

From reading dirtwheels i think the trx450 is the best stock for woods racing because they say it has a smoother powerband than the yfz which would make it easier in the woods.

Its a shame they went bankrupt they were on their way to getting it right. I almost bought one in 2002 but ended up refreshing my 250R instead.
