I as many in this area frequent the Scotsmore/5A ride area weekly.  Last Sunday, I happened across a representative from the Miami Corp.  that owns all that land.  After a brief intro.  he told me he was sent down to look the place over and report back.  He was not looking at the safety of the riders, but at the trash we are leaving behind.

It seems that among other things, people are dumping boats, cars, campers and furniture.  But what was most distrubing to him was the amount of regular trash we as riders are leaving in our trails.  Bottles, cans and misc food wrappers.  I expressed to him that, as a whole those of us who ride there frquently are appreciative that we can.  Also that some of the area ATV clubs have a clean up ride at least twice a year.

What he reports back to Miami Corp.  and if it will have any impact is to been seen in time.

All I can stress to each of us, is what ever you bring into the woods and trails, PLEASE take back out with you.  That is the only way we can insure that we will have a place to ride for the future!

Collectively we as a group can point out the need to keep things clean, to those riders that dont get it!

I want to second what Libertyfla said.   I also frequent 5A and am appalled at the "new trash" that you see on a week to week basis.  We always take our trash back out with us.

Everyone has complaints about all of our riding areas disappearing.  Well guess what?  Maybe if we all treat the land with a little more respect we can keep more areas open.  It's worth a shot.

Let's hope the Miami Corp. doesn't shut us 5A'ers down.

Yeah, I was just there Tuesday and saw the boat.  There was also a van full of people stuck in the mud near the boat.  They said there had been there all night.  Finally got someone to pull them out about 5 or 6pm.

I did notice that the two poles at the entrance were stripped of all the barb wire and signs.

It would be a shame to loose that place over something as stupid as littering.

Over on Highlifter.com there is thread about this also. They are talking about a clean up ride. people really do ruin the fun when they litter. There always are stolen cars and trucks out there too. It is a great place to ride of you like deep water and mud.

I dont live up there or even ride, unfortunately when the report goes in the trash is already there! It does suck alot of the trash is not from ATV riders.I am sure there is a fair amount from kids partying & 4 wheel trucks etc..The best thing to do is report it! Take a pic w/camera,phone.I believe the one gets caught commecial dumping usually will get charged w/all the large debri & will have to have the court sort it out.

Be courteous & pick up no matter where you ride or live for that matter!

I heard that MiamiCorp. only owns portions of the 5A area.  I believe it is mostly along I-95.  They supposedly have the areas they own fenced off with no trespassing signs.  I have also heard there are private land owners out there as well.
