1  General / Racing Scene / DuQuoin Grand Nationals on: July 12, 2010, 03:27:58 PM
Well I am getting ready for the Nationals in DuQuoin. I think about it everyday. It's like a dream come true for me. I never thought I would be racing again and here I am preparing for one of the biggest Am events in the country. I will be racing my first mile. WOW. I will be traveling with my freind and fellow racer Pat Golley. We speak about once a week. Both of us are barely able to control our excitement. I would like to send my prayers out to Pat and his family. His Dad is battling cancer but still insists Pat attend the races and call him each night after to tell him all about it. I hope to be able to post updates from the track on this forum. If anyone has any advise for the mile I sure could use it. I have watched lots of mile racing on Youtube in order to learn a few thing. I hope it helps. This is a life long dream for me and I am glad I will finally make it come true. For those of you not attending, please know that we will do our best to represent SDTA in DuQuoin. Oh yea...anyone who wishes to sponor the trip came contact me anytime. Just kiddin I got this. But I would like to thank Barneys of Brandon for helping me get my bike tuned and ready for the races. Wink

No I never raced a Kawi. We were on a tight budget back then and the Kawi leathers were cheap. I may still have those leathers in the attick. I bet they are stiff enough to stand up on their one by now. Still looking for the bike if anyone knows about it. I just called my Dad and he said there was definitly a chain on the bicycle.

By the way...It's hard to see but if you look at the bicycle leaning on the garage you will notice a #97 front plate on it. Pretty cool huh?

yea, yea, yea, All comedian's on here now. If you must know back then we did not have "O" ring chains, at least I didn't, when we cleaned the bike my Dad would make me remove the chain and soak it in Kerosene to clean it.  I will say I have looked at that picture for 20+ years and never noticed it until now. Thanks for pointing that out. FYI, I won 1 or 2 on that bike...

You have a great memory. If you can still contact Rick maybe I can track it down. Do you still have your flattrack bikes. If you do it would be great to see you riding again with us. I started back about 2 years ago and I'm having the time of my life. I really would love to find the old YZ.

I sold a 1979 YZ 250 around 1993. I'm not sure if it was a Knight or Champion frame. I do know it was nickel plated. The paint was one of a kind light blue with red flake and a green Viper snake panted on the tank. I can't remeber who I sold it to but I think he was related to the local Tampa flattracker by the last name of parker. If anyone knows about this bike please contact me.
Thank You,
Matt Sibbick

I had a great time this past week in Daytona. I did not do as well as I would have liked but I managed to past a few of our local fast guys and keep them behind me for a while. I wont tell you the names but their initials are S. McN. and K. B. Thanks for the fun AMA.

13  General / Racing Scene / Re: Bike Week Flat Track Racing - What SDTA Race Teams Will Be Racing? on: February 22, 2010, 05:10:02 PM
Sibbick racing will be in attendance with rider Matt Sibbick 2009 2nd place points winner for the Amateur class along with his father Rich Sibbick providing moral support and a clean bike. We will have the motorhome and would like to invite other SDTA members to pit near by.
We will be entering the 30+ and 40+ classes in  hopes to earn a #1 plate after also attending this summer Am Nationals. We are currently accepting sponsorship for the Daytona Am Nationals. Please hurry sticker space on the bike is limited.

I want to thank Ray, Gary and Wade as well as all the track officials for a great night of racing. They all worked very hard to allow all of us a great night. There were a few really fast pro's there last night. It made for a good show. No one was hurt last night and thats awesome.
I also would like to thank Ray for thinking BIG in turn 4 and sticking his foot 6' out so I could not get under him. "Ray, it was like old times only this time you closed the door on me". Ray, let's get together for a practice day, just you and I on the track for 10 or 12 laps. I bet we will both have a great time.

17  General / Racing Scene / Re: WHO'S GOING TO JASPER ON FEB 6TH? on: February 05, 2010, 07:25:24 PM
Look Below

Personal History:
Well it started way back on a picture perfect beautiful, sunny day in Florida. It was one of those days that could be on a post card in small little gift shop along a white sandy beach as the sun dances off the waves. It was just cool enough for light yet warm jacket, which is normal during the mid month of January. But little did the folks who resided in the busy city of Tampa know that they would be given such a precious gift that day. A precious gift in the form of a nine pound ten ounce baby boy, whose name was chosen to be William Scott Gulley. A name that echoed with such greatnest. A name that all would know and fear to be matched up against on any clay or limerock oval.  A legend some would say, a natural to say the least.

From such a young age it was clear that this young boy was given a gift. A gift to drive a wheeled vehicle into a dirt corner with such ease and unmatched speed, that some would say he looked like an earth bound angel flying around the track. An angel to some, but an arch angel to others. An arch angel with such speed and grace as if removing and destroying all evil and darkness which laid in his way. The competition all knew that it was hopeless to even try to match his speed and ability. That all would just sit and watch with such great amazment, hoping to just be blessed to have one small spect of red clay thrown upon them from his being. A blessing some and all would long to experience and tresure for a lifetime.

That's exactly how I would write in only I'd change the name to Matthew John Sibbick and I would lower the weight because I'M NOT BIG...Ward !!!!!

25  General / Racing Scene / Re: Daytona race schedule on: January 13, 2010, 09:50:15 AM
who is planning on going? I should be able to get a toyhauler trailer that will sleep around 6 to 8 people. If I get some names I can book a camping site ate Daytona from 2/26 till 3/5. I am told the camping is only about $200 for the week. Let me know.
