1  General / Open Discussion / Re: To the under 30 crowd on: August 11, 2009, 03:11:02 PM
Our parents had remotes back then, us kids.

No timer in the TV to turn it off either.

I had to make one out of an old oven timer, so my Mom would stop yelling at me for leaving the TV on all night, wasting electricity. I watched Johnny Carson all the time, and would fall off to sleep.

And don't forget the target looking graphics after all the shows ended, no TV all night.

4  General / Open Discussion / Re: Any info on 12v semi-portable water storage/shower? on: April 03, 2009, 10:44:23 AM
Here's what I did.

40gal RV water tank from ebay RV surplus seller, rectangle shape, load it across the bed behind the cab.
Coleman propane hot water on demand unit with shower head and hose.
12v marine wash down pump with pressure switch to shut it down.
Shower tent set up beside truck.

If you weren't so far from me, I'd sell you mine.
5  General / Open Discussion / First time ever on an ATV on: March 14, 2009, 03:10:47 PM
This isn't on the trails, but thought I would share a good laugh.

My very first time on an ATV.

I won two free tickets to a truck pull held at the Tampa Fair Grounds large indoor building back

in 1986. I also won the grand prize, got to take 10 more of my friends free, and was in the half

time show. That should have told me something right there, but the tall cold beers they were

selling might have clouded my thought process some. I found out I was to race the radio DJ two

laps around the clay strip. He asked me if I had ever rode an ATV and I said no, he said good. I

knew right then that this might not turn out like I thought it would. Well we took off and went

into the first turn, I couldn't get the thing to turn enough so I stopped. Twice I hit the gas and

the front wheels went into the air and off I went, headed right for a parked truck and it's

driver. I hit the brakes and stopped three feet from hitting the driver standing by his front left

tire. He stepped up, grabbed the front end and turned me, pointed his arms that a way, and the

entire crowd, all 10,000, and my girlfriend with 10 friends, laughed so hard, I mean it was in a roar. I took

off and did only a little better on the next turn but made it. And I had another lap to go. Mean

while the DJ is doing donuts in the center waiting on me. We did better on the 2nd lap and he

slowed so I would win. That's when the crowd roared again. I couldn't wait for it all to get over.

He asked me if I did all that on purpose, I had to tell the truth and say no. We laughed and off

we went for a cold one. It was all fun, so it turned out good. I didn't start riding again until 2003, didn't like em.

After that I got to stay on the track because I had a pit pass on to race, so I took some cool

shots standing right at the end of the strip.

Before the show, had us wear a promo shirt.
Don't remember what kind of quad it was.

Going by for the win, really looking for a place to hide.

Pics standing at the end of the clay strip.
That close, those trucks were real loud I tell ya.

6  General / Open Discussion / Re: wear your seatbelt! on: September 29, 2008, 05:19:24 PM
Good to hear you two walked out of it.
Prayers going out to the dummies families.

I was driving from Gainesville to Tampa a few years back and two idiots came by in a Acura doing at least 100mph.
They would go into the emergency lanes on both sides to pass others. Well they lost it going from the outside emergency lane trying to get between two others. The back slid around and the car rolled, throwing them both. We came upon all this about five miles down the road after they passed us. They already had blankets over them.

Seat belts do save.
7  General / Open Discussion / Re: Transfering a title... on: September 24, 2008, 07:45:19 PM
Forgot to say, you can go to any DMV in the state.

I used to go to the next town over, it happened to be in a different county.
Only went there because it was a small town, and you could be in and out in minutes.

What ever the sales tax is in your county.

Thanks, that's pretty good, and loud.

I used to have a ring tone of frogs, sounded like hundreds of them.
Sure was funny in a quiet restaurant, people would look all over trying to find them.

13  General / Open Discussion / Re: electronic gate opener advice? on: September 17, 2008, 09:57:32 PM
A co-worker of mine had his large yard fenced in and had an electric gate installed as well.
They told him to get the type that swings open and closed.
The type that roll back and forth give you more problems and repairs.
That's what they told him, he's had it now 5-6 years with no problems yet.
It's a wide one to.

Just remember they didn't do very well at forecasting where Fay would go.
Sometimes these things have a mind of their own.
Well worth keeping an eye on.

23  General / Open Discussion / Re: Generator question on: August 19, 2008, 08:41:32 PM
After the problem I had, I've used the product called "Stable".

Use in everything, generators, quads, chain saw, lawn mower, no problems since.

But the statement of draining all the fuel from the carb bowl is great if it's going to sit for over 6 months.
24  General / Open Discussion / Re: Generator question on: August 19, 2008, 03:47:44 PM
When it runs it idles up and down like it has a load being turned on and off.  To get it to smooth out I closed the choke about half way.  Any ideas what causes that?

I had a problem years ago, cleaned the carb and everything in the bowl with acetone.
Just be careful with plastic, don't let it soak long.
I just used a tooth brush and wiped with a rag.
Ran great after that.
