General / Tech Corner / Re: Chain Adjustment ???
|
on: February 11, 2009, 11:30:30 AM

It's me again Frank, You helped out on the timing, that works great, I found someone in my area to fix the timming and soak the carborator for me, this thing runs and idles like its new. I can't believe how simple that was. There were two obvious marks on the flywheel, yeah it wasn't eighter of them. Its the Roketa UTV250 sidexside. The last time I drove it the chain didn't slip, and as far as I know we didn't mess with any adjustment for that, nor did we take the motor out.

General / Tech Corner / Chain Adjustment ???
|
on: February 11, 2009, 10:35:46 AM
|
I am stumped, I have the manual and it says to loosen and slide upper wheel down to the chain, thats how to tighten. Unfortunatly its about a mile away now after sitting in my garage for a month. This didn't slip the last time I rode it, Me and a friend rebuilt the engine (top) but didn't mess with any mounts at all. Could the mounting spacers have weekened enough to cause this? Or are my tensioning wheels worn too much?? Any ideas.

Its about time. If anyone needs an nearly expert on a ROKETA EX-250 utility drop me an e-mail. It runs like a dream. After exausting almost every motorcycle dealer in Pensacola and 3 chinese bike dealers and hours or reaserch and specialty shops visits in the area "I GOT NOWHERE" !!! The only true help came from a guy on this site "CHEVY1500Z71", working my problems out with me. I finally found the Reverse Swing Arm on the Roketa site under a ATV parts section and built it using what was left of the original part. Works great. Then I put in a new back flow preventer that I took off when I was fixing the gas lines and that fixed the not staring problem after sitting awile. Its DONE!!! When I paint it and install my remote controlled winch I'll post some pictures. All I have to do now is find a place to go trail riding, anyone want to go?? I need a place to ride in the Western Fl area. Thanks again "CHEVY1500Z71" and this site.

Yeah I already put it in the gas tank an ran it, I coulden't believe the difference. I'll try what you said after I run this trough because it still back fires a llittle when I let off. Believe it or not this carb does not have any other tunning screws, just the idle one mentioned. I just visited "CRAZY CARL" in Defuniac Springs and he pulled my carb of the shelf and explained. It was like he was showing a Dog how to flush a toilet, Uhuh I said. Its electronic tunning???
Anywho, I'm still looking for the doohicky that will get me in motion... its a 9-10mm 24 splined cupling or something that will fit on a 9-10 mm 24 splined shaft.
I'll be back.

Well today I learned more about Roketa and chinese bikes than I ever wanted to know. Not good, and I now understand why they want nothing to do with you after the sale!!! Thank god I didn't buy this new... Roketa has not returned any of my e-mails and the dearler in Apopka wanted nothing to do with me. The dealers usually don't get what they ordered, what are my chances.
Anyway, I visited a repair shop in Pea Ridge, Fl nearby Milton, and they filled me in. I found the reverse lever, they can order it, only costs $75 plus shipping, Good luck I said. And I was introduced to SEA FOAM, put it in my gas and ran about 8 miles and now it purrs like a kitten on Idle. Lengthened the Idle screw to set that by getting a shorter spring. Now I'm looking for the Reverse Lever... from a scrap Roketa or a cheaper source than new. I'm visiting a guy from a lawnmower shop hear in Pensacola tomorrow, he said he has 3 five gallon buckets full of splined levers, metric and such. Mabey I'll hit gold.
Otherwise, does anyone have something that will fit on the end of the shaft in the picture??? The bike is a MODEL # EX-250 Utility (part 10 mm 24 splined doohickey)

Yes it is a 4 stroke, and I will look for the other screw tomorrow and do what you said. I'll get this some day... It really agravated me that no cycle shop in the country was open today and I just had to watch kids all day, or I may have had some answers. Thanks again and I'll post back on my success.

Ok, I'm lost then because I thought this was the idle screw, all it does is stops the the accelerator from shuting down, but the adjustment is spent, and then some. If I turn it clockwise it just, well it is supposed to push the throttle back so it doesen't close. shouldn't the air/fuel screw be something going into the carb somewhere. Forgive me for the ignorance.

Alright since I'm still on top of the forum I'll ask. I seem to have a carborator like none other I have ever seen, There is only an idle screw that is maxed out to the in position. My Roketa will idle just bearley touching the gas, rough but it idles. As soon as I let go the motor quites. It would work if the screw was a 1/2 an inch longer or less, and thats not right. Any insight??

Well I guess it dosen't matter really, but I could kick myself sometimes for tring to be so dam OEM, if you know what I mean. I'm pretty sure the black piece (lever) has been cobbled together. I just don't want to create a bigger problem if I go welding things, and another thing is if I get it in the wrong place. I think it was slipping when I adjusted it. But it ran like a raped ape when You got it running for me, I went a whole 200 yards. Are you ready to race!!!

This might help,
The wires are labeled into the plastic on the switch;
AM - Black IG1 - Black/White Acc - Blue ST - Black/Yellow IG2 - Red/Blue
I don't need to fry anything!! So was wondering how these connect.

I got it through "freecycle" a site developed to aleviate landfill strain. I had it for sale but didn't realize what it meant to the family(wife), Oh did I say that out loud. ANYHOW, back to the Roketa. How do I hotwire it. I read the previous post and will see what colors I have but I don't want to injure it.

Ok, Thanks I'll try that. I hope its that easy. What are the chances a Honda ignition switch would fit this, I've heard others say that some parts are exchangable like the CDI box. I'll follow up on my project. This was is my last one.

Well first of all, The ignition switch is bad and I have to jump it with a screwdriver and the thing turns over and over. I don't have any spark at the spark plug and have tested the plug and tried another, same thing no spark. Is there a way to test the wires comming out of the magneto?

The name says it all, and I know how stupid I am for buying it. Ok with that said, I have a 250cc SidexSide UV, How do you test the magneto without tearing down the motor?
