I know I bring this up too late, but maybe next year.
I had group of  riders come through the shop today on the way to the Leesburg bikefest. Spending the weekend and was wanting to know if there was any racing going on in the area. What if next year SDTA sat down with the owner of the track and plan a schedule around some of the local bikefest, Leesburg, starke, ect. I know it cost $$$ to put an ad in the local bike mags. But print up some flyers and pass them out on Saturday at leesburg. "1/4 mile flattrack racing under the lights in Ocala, just 30 minutes away"Huh? Was just thinking of ways to really drive spectator attendance at the races. Maybe it has already been tried???
just my thoughts,
David and Pat

What time are you planing tomorrow? Looks like rain in the afternoon. Have you looked at the track? David

I think it is this weekend, last weekend with all the rain we received was underwater.

Matt, I think you should change your handle from Rflattrackmatt to Fasttrackmatt since you are getting to darn fast, time to run the money class.

You want to ride the BEAST?Huh? TB was not the place to try it out. I have to break down and buy rear shocks. I shoe horned a CR500 short rod motor in the Champion frame, bought R6 front forks, Weiss wide adjustable trees, Jemco down pipe, completely rebuilt the motor, spent many days on the port work, trying to mellow out the power band. Remote starter, had to install an old style compression release so it would turn over, no kick start, took it out, save weight, right at 200 lbs. Besides, I don't want to kick start that thing. UF helped our local radiator shop build a system that would be compact enough and flow/cool 3 times better than stock. You know in a 2 stroke, Heat robs horse power. Still trying to dial in the jetting. Changed the rotor heavier, upgraded the stator/CDI to digital from old analog and trying to change the timing curve. I was on the street behind our shop testing last week and 3rd gear about a 100mph and rolled the throttle on and the front end stood straight up. So, still want to ride the BEAST? We can talk about a ride, or two.

Shawn, I was really impressed. Has mounts for 1" or 7/8" bars, clips on and off the mount, like a snap buckle on a life vest.  I had it mounted just left of the triple tree. Camera only weighs 3.5 oz. Yes there was vibration, but not so much the clarity was bad. It did bounce a little out of turn 4, it picks up the revs of the motor. Maybe feel I was not on the gas soon enough in the turn. Could hear the tire squeal in turn 3, Good color.

Ward, The Bike Cam has GREAT clarity and good sound. Small, 4" long and the size of 2 of your cigars. Self contained, no wires, mounts for the helmet or bars/frame, 4 hours of record time and only $132.00. I think its great. Besides, I had to get it since you can now run in the AARP Class, sorry, Super Senior. I just want a video of that yellow monster blowing by me, leaving me in the dust.

Shawn,
I tried out our new bike cam at TB, got some really good video/sound of 2nd Practice, both heats and Main. Wish i would have used it on the first practice with the inaugural run of the CR500.

I am in need of a set of used rear shocks (2) 10 1/2" to 12" eye to eye, for a new flattrack project bike we are building.  I have searched ebay, VFT and flattrack.com. Call me at the shop 352-468-3979, or email me. Thanks Pat, Orange Cycle.

I just want to say who ever did not go to SC missed some really great racing. I had forgot what it is was like to race on a real flattrack. I am not saying anything is wrong with our Florida tracks, I am VERY thankful we have them, but wide sweeping turns...WOW!!!!! The highlight of my Saturday's race was during practice, this blurr came around me on the outside in turn 3 and 4 and for 20 ft I was able to run beside Kenny Coolbeth.  The Florida team had a strong showing and I think everyone had a great time, I know Pat and I did. We are planning on going back again before Daytona. Thanks Shawn and the rest of the guys for some great racing.

David and Pat will be there. Pat should have is motorcycle together and will try 2 wheels. My wrist should almost be healed enough to race, I broke a couple of bones at Auburndale.

Rick,

What a great night, THANKS for all the great work trying to prep the track!

David is sorry he could not be there with his bike but he had a fun time cleaning the Motorcycle, Quad and truck. He scooped up all the clay from washing the equipment today and we have about 5 gallons.
Next race we will return it, not enough to build a practice track behind the shop.

Thanks again for a great night.

I know Pat and I had a great time, it has been 24 years since I threw a leg over a flat tracker. As for 30 year old suspension, I rode a bike like that back in the day and have rode rougher tracks. My suspension was 30 days old and the track was rough for the main event, but all I can say is THANK YOU Mr. Brady for being there for us. Without Brady and the others, where would we ride. I think he is doing a HECK of a job, he does have other things going on in his life. All in all it was a great night, we all left at a decent hour, no one got hurt, some equipment damage, but that's racing.

21  General / Racing Scene / Practice at Auburndale? on: July 22, 2008, 06:01:12 PM
Has any one heard if Auburndale is having open practice this Thursday? I have wheels for my motorcycle and need some track time before Thunderbowl. David
22  General / Racing Scene / Re: Auburndale Flyer on: May 29, 2008, 03:46:05 PM
My vote is to remove the knobbie tire class option at all tracks but Dave & Brady need to second this vote to make it count. I believe the knobbie quads absolutely trash the track and create most of the ruts that the bikes have to contend with.

Once TB is open again they can ride on Sunday if they want to give it a go.

Just my 2 cents
S.M.
No more knobbie tires? That will help the sport grow. Does this include motorcycles?

YFZ:
Yes in my opinion we should eliminate the knobbie option for both Motorcycles and quads except pee-wees. I am sure there are plenty of quad riders that have extra tire/wheels available to loan out to any newbies that want to try Flat Track, heck if I remember correctly I think you sent me a P.M. and offered to loan me your wheels back when I was asking for advice for my sisters quad? I may be wrong but I do not see many knobbie guys showing up and I definitely do not remember any of them coming back with F.T. tires?

If you are reading this and you have an extra set of wheels/tires or maybe just rears for a newbie quad rider to try F.T. please post a message and offer them up for one a one race try out. This will help the sport grow and solve the problem of knobbies tearing up the track.

S.M.

I have several extra full sets of front and rear rims with tires mounted. Even have some used tires with  life even after Webster. I have no problem helping out to grow the sport. All we use are  10x5 4/144 front rims and 10x10 4/110 rears.

What are the rules?  DT frame, CC size? Single/V-Twin? Yamaha TZ750 in a frame...Oh thats water cooled, never mind.
I started on a Honda 350 in a DT frame before job, marriage and kids got in the way.
I would be interested.

Lots of good input...

So I hear insurance...I am a numbers man, show me cold hard numbers. I like to see things in black and white. So, who is in charge, call the shop 352-468-3979, lets iron out some details and lets look at a race date.

Sounds like you have plenty of people for year end stuff.

Discounts to series members and riders...NO PROBLEM!!!! I said this before, it is not about the money. I am a dealer for more than I can say. Rims (ITP, we are even talking to Douglas) , Tires (I bought a LOT of tires to test, even working on a wider right front rim/tire combo) , lowing kits, protective gear (Thor, Sixsixone, EVS.......)ECT>>>> I can not post prices less than retail due to our contract with certain distributors/manufactures. If you need something, call.

I glad someone posted about a practice day/track.....so future riders/racers can come out and not feel the pressure of a race. If it could be close to North Central Florida, like the new Ocala small track (Brady is building) would be a great help. Most of the riders I know work all week and would be able to come out on a Sunday. I would not feel comfortable telling riders to practice on Ocala's big track. Might be a little to intimidating.

Bringing the riders under one umbrella is a fantastic idea.

We do not mind helping out.
David

25  General / Racing Scene / Growing the sport -- Flattrack/TT Quad/Motorcycle on: April 24, 2008, 09:00:35 PM
I would like to pose a question?

What can I do as a shop owner to help grow the sport?

We plan to field a quad next race (Ocala) and in the future, possibly two and a motorcycle. But, that is not enough. I would like to see the sport show the same attendance as a motocross race, and I could be dreaming.  We have been talking up flattrack to some of the local quad riders at Waldo Motorsports and trying to get them to come out and race.

The following are Ideas we came up with and would love input, and of course everything would have to be approved by The "Southern Dirt Track Association".

Possibly having a tire manufacture donate a set of quad tires to the year end points champion.

We could offer a discount on wheels, parts and protective riding gear. We are not out to make money but to help the sport.

Our shop could help sponsor an event and put up a small purse for the winner. I know times are tough and might help to offset travel expenses. Maybe other bike shops might get on board and do more than just sponsor a rider.

I know Brady has donated tons of his time and expense to building and promoting the sport, we just want to help.

Feedback would be great!

Thanks, David
