FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Park Site Public Information Meeting Planned on Sept. 28 A public meeting is planned to obtain input on a potential All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Park. All interested parties are invited to attend and provide their ideas on criteria for a proposed future ATV Park site. It will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 28 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the University of Florida Extension Services, 14700 Immokalee Road, Naples.
Growth Management Division Deputy Administrator Nick Casalanguida will lead the discussion. There will be a short formal presentation followed by an opportunity for questions and input needed on where the potential park should be located, the size of the potential park and what type of facilities should be included.
In July, the Board of County Commissioners approved that staff move forward with public involvement and concept evaluations for an ATV Park. Funds have been set aside from a settlement with the South Florida Water Management District for the purpose of establishing a public ATV Park. This is the public's opportunity to have a say in where it is potentially going to be built as well as what amenities they would like to see included.
One or more members of the Board of County Commissioners may be in attendance at this public meeting.
If you are a person with a disability who needs any accommodation in order to participate in this proceeding, you are entitled, at no cost to you, to the provision of certain assistance. Please contact the Collier County Facilities Management Department located at 3335 Tamiami Trail East, Naples, Florida, 34112, (239) 252-8380 prior to the meeting; assisted listening devices for the hearing impaired are available in the County Commissioners' Office.
For questions about this meeting, please contact Community Liaison Connie Deane at 239-252-8192 or 8365.

If you go please abide by all the rules. I was talking to a ranger about a month ago and they confiscated five atv's for riding off the trails. It's a beautiful place to visit but they have ZERO tolerance....

All, Our club will be having our 61st Annual Wild hog BBQ in the heart of the Everglades. Costs are $20.00 for adult and $10.00 for children. The address is 50940 Loop Road, Ochopee, Fl 34141. Gates open at 11:00 am on Sat 2/26/11 and the BBQ will be served from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Activities include Live band, Sporting clays, free swamp buggy rides, kids games and more. Coolers will be allowed, beverages will also be sold on premises and no pets are allowed in the BBQ area. Please note this is not a MUDFEST OR RNYC event, you cannot bring your own atv or swamp buggy, etc. This is more of a family event where you can bring and spend time with your children and learn about the Gladesman and it's culture which is rapidly disappearing. You can call me @ 239-304-1252 or e-mail me @ lswjth2@yahoo.com to buy tickets....Thxs Rick

This is actually a good thing, hopefully it will keep the ones that don't want to play by the rules out. Someone went into our camp within the last three weeks and helped themselves to our camp vhf radio.

General / Open Discussion / Re: Big Cypress Designated Trails

Matt, I think that the "powers to be" let this happen on purpose to then close the area. About 2 or 3 years ago i had a meeting with the Chief Ranger Ed Clark about forming an ATV volunteer group to help with the back country visitors, trail maintenance, etc and NOTHING ever came of this. On another occasion i approached the park about donating a VHF radio and antenna setup as long as they agreed to monitor a certain channel since you know that cell coverage does not always work and my offer was turned down.
Now they are finally forming the ATV volunteer trail ranger program and the rumor is that these people are all tree huggers filing up the positions for this. I hope that this is truly not the case, if it is, it's just a matter of time before there's some serious trouble out there between the huggers and the traditional community...Rick
