General / Open Discussion / The little guy
|
on: October 13, 2009, 10:40:02 AM

There was this little guy sitting in a bar, drinking his beer, minding his own business when all of a sudden this great big dude comes in and -- WHACK!! -- knocks him off the bar stool and onto the floor. The big dude says, "That was a karate chop from Korea."
The little guy thinks "GEEZ," but he gets back up on the stool and starts drinking again when all of a sudden -- WHACK!! -- the big dude knocks him down AGAIN and says, "That was a judo chop from Japan."
So the little guy has had enough of this... He gets up, brushes himself off and quietly leaves. The little guy is gone for an hour or so when he returned. Without saying a word, he walks up behind the big dude and -- WHAM!!!" -- knocks the big dude off his stool, knocking him out cold!!!
The little guy looks at the bartender and says, "When he comes to, tell him that's a crowbar from Sears."

check an make sure each front hub has the right amount of oil in them. i had a scrambler and the hub oil was low causing it to go into 4wd, sometimes it would only lock one side in causing it to pull. it was pretty much dry. so i just took everything apart clean the bearings and put it back together and everything seemed fine.

my rubicon acted the same way. run fine for a while then sputter and quit running. when it doesnt want to start back up choke it. thats what i had to do to get it back to the truck. but i cleaned the carb and i even took the tank out and cleaned it too. Also check and make sure the vents hose arent clogged. like i said worked for me. hope this helps

Milemarker is a good brand too if your looking for something cheaper than a warn. only paid 144 for my 2500. only problem i have was the solenoid quit. they honored their warranty tho and sent me a brand new one. Id say do your research for and look at reviews.

it sounds like your talking about the lid?
i had my foreman and rancher snorkeled and used to go in water over the bars never did anything with the lid and they never leaked. but thats just my input.
oh its the lid and its for my honda fourtrax 250. i didnt have a problem with it leaking but when it tipped over i had alot of mud in the box and on the filter and was just wondering if there was an easier way of sealing it where i can do it at the park if for some reason this were to happen again. the lid should come with a spaghetti seal around the lip of it, if it has fallen out then you could use silicone or i would just buy a new spaghetti seal, put it on the lid just like stock and it shouldn't leak.
as for that i dont think that model ever had one. it just has the lip on the lid. i will look into it tho cuz i could be wrong. most utility quads have it, the 250ex could have none like most sport bikes. your probably not wrong there. id just go ahead and use window silicone or black automotive silicone and put a release agent on first so that you basicaly make yourself a re-usable seal that wont actualy be glued to the lid, itl just be like a rubber gasket basicly. i could just fill in the grove the lid has then use the release agent and put it around the top of the box. what would be the best agent tho. WD-40 or some grease perhaps?? either way i just want something that i could reuse. I use aquarium sealant from Lowe's on my rhino. Take the air box out of the machine put the lid on it then run a small beed in the gap between lid and box. Its easy to remove the lid and the left over beed and it seals really good. It only takes 20 or so minutes for it to harden enough so you can reseal on the trail, done it more than once. Your best bet is to have an extra clean an oiled filter also.
i think i know what your talking about. basically the sealant that is use to seal the corners up where the glass comes together right? I could look into it

u know i had basicly the same problem with my rubicon. ran fine for over 2 hrs one day then it started to sputter. next day started it up ran fine. then like a week later it acted up again. i would have to choke it to keep it running. all i did was just go through the carb and clean it out. ran fine since

General / Tech Corner / sealing an airbox
|

OK Ive heard of alot of ppl using silicone for sealing an airbox up specially after putting a snorkel on it but man its a pain to open it back up when you need to. it there something else that can be used? I was thinking up a thin piece of rubber to lay over the box then putting then lid on but i wasnt sure if that was the best idea. Whats your take?

no i didnt have a problem. what size pipe u run? mine is 2in but it i had to run a reducer cuz the airbox is only 1 3/4 i believe. and actually its rubber too which helped when rolling it cuz instead of it breaking it jus twisted u know what i mean. but ive heard alot of ppl have to rejet theirs. i got lucky and didnt. if the pipe is smaller than the airbox inlet then i could size that being and problem but if its bigger then idk. maybe it would be a good question to post in the tech form. sorry i couldnt really help

glad you mention it. put 24in tires on the front the lifted it about a inch to get it to set level. Went to East Coast Offroad Park today and had a blast with it. the extra clearance help for the mud holes but ill tell you what that water was cold today! there was one point where the handle bars were pretty much underwater and as long as you leaned back and got the back tires to bite it walked! it ran great tho. Submerged it like 10 times and 8 times were a success. Let my buddy right it and he flipped it the other two times but after bout 10 mins we had it running again. Easy to float. Got hung up on a log in this one spot I just jump off let it float over it then jumped on and kept going. Snorkel it too high so ima trim it down 3 or 4 inches. 20 bucks for the pvc and 20 for the 4 vent lines i ran. 40 dollars and it seemed like it could go anywhere. i just wish i didnt forget the camera. next ill have to get pics for yall tho.

lol yeah i know its tall but as u can see it doesnt sit as tall as the 500 sitting next to it so i wanted to make up for it. No i didnt. seem to run fine. Ran wide out open and it didnt bust up or anything. so i wouldnt think its running lean or anything. thinking bout lifting it 2 inches. the swing arms should allow 2 inches jus might have to modify it just a bit. after that i might put 25in under it since it only has 22 on the front and 25 mud machine tri-claws on the back. should level it out then i might trim the snorkel down a bit. work in progress. It just sat in the garage so i figure what the hell. lol
