i'm partial to yamaha myself. all my toys have been yamahas. jet ski's, boat engines, and for the last 2 years my bike. i got a 660 and have been more than satisfied with it. it has power to spare, rarely gets stuck. never broken down or broken anything for the much. it gets serviced every 6 months and washed about once a month. my girlfriends uncle has the 700 with power steering and it runs awesome too. performance they are both about the same, just the 700 is fuel injected and the 660 is carb. personally i don't like the feel of the power steering myself. just my 2 cents.

11  General / Open Discussion / Re: Riding in Residential Neighborhood on: February 06, 2008, 07:09:35 PM
if they are keeping it on their property that they own then i see no harm in it. but if it is a daily routine then that would be annoying. everyday would be too much. i got this fpl field thats actually public land behind my house that i ride for maybe 15 min about every two weeks just to give my some movement if it hasn't ran in a while. also after i wash it i go for a lap that takes maybe a minute so the grass cleans the tires a bit. i don't go in there everyday though cuz i wouldn't want to hear a bike tearing it up for hours on end everyday either. that would be annoying. i had a guy stop me once and argue that it was private property and that there were no trespassing signs up. i told him to show me just one and i would stop riding. he continued to argue so i gave him my phone to call the cops (i even dialed it myself lol). when the cops got there they said i wasn't doing anything wrong. if he hadn't been a prick i would have told him that i was just giving my bike some exercise and that i was finishing up. i've lived here for ten years and never had a problem. on the contrary when some of my neighbors see me they come out and make conversation with me and i take their kids for a ride too. this guy had just moved in to the neighborhood and i guess was frustrated that day. he actually apologized to me a few days later when i was out front my house. bottom line is i don't ride anywhere that i can't defend myself in.

14  General / Group Rides & Events / Re: Who's Riding in South Florida This Weekend? on: January 24, 2008, 06:29:58 PM
brett needs to get his bike registered that morning so we'll probably just ride the trail that goes out of the visitor center.

best area around bear island, I hate that rocky road coming out of Osais

yea i've heard good things about bear island. oasis isn't bad after that rock trail. there's some trails with mud pits and logs to climb over.

Here a link to the permit guidlines for big cypress national park:

http://www.nps.gov/bicy/planyourvisit/upload/Permit%20guidelines%20FINAL.pdf

at the very bottom is says they give out 2,000 permits a year and the first time i went to ranger told me they have never sold that many lol
20  General / Group Rides & Events / Re: Who's Riding in South Florida This Weekend? on: January 23, 2008, 11:31:35 AM

I'm running 9's in the front and 12's in on the rear would that be good enough to pass?Glad to know the inspection is every 2 years thanks for clearing that up for me.

Thats what i have and passed fine.
21  General / Group Rides & Events / Re: Who's Riding in South Florida This Weekend? on: January 23, 2008, 12:21:55 AM

You also need an annual permit to ride there also.I called a few months ago about getting the permit and they told me they only sell so many permits per year and at that time they still had them available. They also inspect your machine as well before giving you the permit as well as have you watch the 30 min video. They told me to call ahead before bringing the atv down for inspection because they said they could most likley save me a trip there and could get certain info over the phone.

The inspections are every two years. Basically u just need working headlights, taillights, muffler with spark arrestor, and proof of ownership. As for the tires u need 7inches of tread touching the floor in the front and 9inches in the rear. The first time i went about 2 yrs ago with my stocks (right after i bought the bike) the rears didn't pass. They measure like crazy and if they aren't sure they have u drive over sand and measure the floor. So i bought new tires and went bike the next week and have been riding since.
22  General / Group Rides & Events / Re: Who's Riding in South Florida This Weekend? on: January 23, 2008, 12:18:08 AM
i know i've been riding there for years. I only have two riding buddies that are registered and they hardly ride. wanted to see if anybody else here wanted to go. I just lifted my bike and i'm dying to ride. i went to go ride last weekend in homestead but before i could unload the bike a metro dade cop told us we weren't allowed to ride in that area anymore. So i'm left with just cypress. not to bad thought it's only a 45 minute trip for my to burns lake and a little more for bear island. Haven't been there for a while though. I just gotta swing by the station for my new decal. I don't need inspection till next year so.

Anybody wanna go?
