Agreed...
2  General / Open Discussion / Re: Who makes the best pickup? on: July 05, 2008, 04:03:22 PM
In my book Dodge make a good truck specially with Cummings engines...Had a Dodge '04 2500 SB Laramie 4x4 Cummings w/ 97k traded for New '08 3500 DRW LB Laramie 4x4. Did not have a problem with the 04 and we tow 41' toyhauler 18k lbs.  Bought a new truck because the market was right and still got $18k for the '04...also the previous truck was not big enough for the toyhauler...we were border line on the towing wgt.

To be honest, we liked the Ford Super Duty 350 Duallys but we were hesitant about all the stories we were hearing about the diesel engines.  Didn't want to get stuck with eng problems in the middle of a trip.
3  General / Open Discussion / Yes, we all heard it before...ATV Safety and Minors. on: May 23, 2008, 07:48:20 AM
As the school year draws to a close, the All-Terrain Vehicle Safety Institute
would like to ask educators to impress upon students and their parents the
importance of all-terrain vehicle safety. Summer vacation marks a time when
students have more free time, some of which may be unsupervised and include
access to an ATV.

There are approximately 25 million Americans operating ATVs in the United
States. It is important that riders and non-riders alike understand the value of
safe and responsible ATV use. The ATV Safety Institute has created activity
sheets for students about ATVs and the Golden Rules of ATV safety. Click on the
link to download the activity sheets for grades K-6 <http://pull.xmr3.com/p/7042-B952/84343873/clickto1_mlmail-What_is_an_ATV_K_6.pdf.html>
or 7-12 <http://pull.xmr3.com/p/7042-88D6/84343881/clickto2_lmail-What_is_an_ATV_7_12.pdf.html>
, and please share this important information with your students and their
parents.

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission data show that 92 percent of all
ATV-related fatalities are the result of warned-against behaviors. These
behaviors include: not wearing a helmet, riding on public roads, carrying a
passenger on a single-rider ATV, youth riding unsupervised, riding with no
formal ATV training, and riding the wrong size ATV. Approximately 90 percent of
youth ATV-related injuries occur when a child under the age of 16 is operating
an adult-sized ATV.

The ATV Safety Institute's primary goal is to promote the safe and responsible
use of ATVs, thereby reducing accidents and injuries that may result from
improper ATV operation. The safety of all riders, including your students, is
our top priority. ATV Safety Institute member companies offer free training,
approved by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, to all purchasers of new
ATVs. Purchasers of previously owned or non-member brands can receive training
for a nominal fee.

Parents literally hold the key to a child's safety. Please help us inform the
parents of your students about safe and responsible ATV use. Click here
<http://pull.xmr3.com/p/7042-EB42/84343162/clickto3_ail-ASI_Letter_to_Parents.pdf.html>
for a letter to parents on the importance of ATV safety and distribute at your
discretion.

Feel free to contact the ATV Safety Institute should you have any questions or
to request safety materials for your students at (800) 852-5344, or visit our
website www.atvsafety.org <http://pull.xmr3.com/p/7042-BAC2/84343170/http-www.atvsafety.org.html>

Good morning,

Need some info on Plant Bamboo...Is it family family friendly or a place for the wrong crowd to hang out and get drunk?  What kind of riding? Can you camp w/ RVs?  What are the fees?

Thanks,

It's a shame the manufacturers and dealers are backing the effort with all the money they are making from us.  What I really don't understand is the Florida psychic when it comes to using public land?  Look at any western state and it's a different mentality.  Ocala has a billion acres...why can we have sufficient riding areas? We are close to JW Corbitt and it's the same thing...I guess, we have only ourselves to blame for our carelessness and stupidity.

I'm a memeber of RV.net and this is one of the topics on the agenda today...help out if you agree.
Thanks

Bill you can expect to see that number to approach 95%. There are places where this activity does little long term damage and that is mainly in places with Zero rain fall. EPA is after small engines as well.

We live in a rural area and I have seen packs of 6-8 cut across our place and make a mess trying to get away from the law. 35 years ago when I had a dirt bike I road on the road but I did not do damage to other people lands but I did make some noise but the 90cc Honda's did that.

We live just west of the Land Between the Lakes and I think due to damage cost they have really restricted ATV activities. You Tube shows the kind of things people do with ATV's that gets many features ruffed.

We ride also and all I will say is, until the ORV group learns to police themselves, I will support any legislation that will stop the damage they are doing in areas where they are not supposed to be in the 1st place. I stood in a parking lot and watched several ATVs ride around a "no motor vehicles beyond this point" sign, up a hill and then back, repeatedly. When they finally stopped long enough for someone to say something to them, they were very abusive and were going to whip everybody's ass, as they could do what they wanted. They said, they paid taxes, this was public land and no one was going to tell them they couldn't ride where they wanted. I have seen this same mentality more than once and until everyone steps up and puts a stop to these people(the 10%), all of us are going to pay the penalty.

It's not just about forming a local group - they have relatively little clout. What is needed is a unified organization that operates on a national, state and local level, and brings all the smaller groups under their umbrella. The ATVA comes to mind, as does the AMA.

They already have their agenda and projects in the works; by working with them, we avoid reinventing the wheel... Join & get active.

You have a very valid point...Ok, lets say that we are now members of those two organizations...then what?

Maybe your girlfriend can give us an idea of how much money we need to raise or perhaps she can guide us to someone who is willing to help us...if we are really serious about the issue being discussed.  We need to stop whining about not being able to ride...all we need is lots of money raised (doable in my book) and we will get what we want...its all about priorities and involvement.
20  General / Open Discussion / Re: Do we still want to fight for "legal" places to ride? on: July 29, 2007, 01:20:38 PM
In my opinion, we need to have a fund raiser along with a consensus on how the funds should be disbursed.  I personally do not have any experience in creating/organizing a charitable organization but volunteering to it would not be a problem...The idea of joining the "tree huggers" for our benefit...learning how they organize and raise money could be a good thing.  The key is unity and raising a buck or two.
21  General / Open Discussion / Re: High mileage on a diesel ? on: July 19, 2007, 10:07:01 PM
Hey, we can't please everyone...like I said, been pulling a heavy TH and no problems...transmission, etc.  We are headed to Cherokee NF in Augusts...We'll see what happens in the mountains.
22  General / Open Discussion / Re: High mileage on a diesel ? on: July 19, 2007, 09:04:53 PM
In my opinion, and if you can afford it...Cummings 5.9  is the way to go.  I bought a new 2004 4x4 sb ext cab...and pull a 40 ft toyhauler with no problem...w/78k miles so far not one problem.
