All networks use fiber optic at some point. comcast and the other cable companies use fiber optic it just doesnt go to your house, the fiber stops at a node then feeds a few city blocks. verizon's FIOS is FTTP (fiber to the premises) and once it reaches your house it turns to coaxial cable. FIOS is really growing in the northeast like new york, delaware, new jersey, and virginia. I know this because i design these infrastructures
