like SMP63 said...the Square Meal Restaurant at Salt Springs closes at 2 PM everyday...and it is pretty good if you make it....and here's a map to the 88 store which is on what they call 11 now...it's kinda crude since I added the 88 trail...as you exit the trailhead on 316 you immediately turn to the left and it goes around and crosses 316 and wanders a few miles to the 88 store....there's a small corral in the woods behind the store and you walk a few yards to the store

it was the longleaf trail....going south on the west side just after you cross 88,11 or whatever they call it now...just below the OHV center....it's a fairly long straight corridor  at the start just a few yards from 88 where the trees are right up against the trail...I figured if they found me wrapped around a tree they could check the camera and see what the hell happened to me....lol

runfox.....not to rain on your parade but next time you go to Ocala I wouldn't ride from 7:30 PM to 11:00 PM....night riding isn't allowed...that's one of those rules you need to read and come prepared to follow...but I'm sure the rangers will understand if you get caught riding at night..... Wink
6  General / Where to Ride? / Re: Is there going to be a new trail from Lake D to big scrub opening Up??? on: April 21, 2008, 05:52:03 PM
I've been told by Brett Bush who I have always assumed is in charge of the forest plan that a loop from the north trail system to the south is in the plans.....not just one trail but a loop.....I was told this is maybe 2 years away....getting across highway 40 is something that will require some funding for a bridge, culvert, light or some other means to get to the other side..not to mention what to do at other paved roads...safety you know.....I've been told by some of the other rangers that the basic trail has been cut and/or being worked on ...it's supposed to go by the 88 store so you can get gas if necessary....I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for this to happen though

take your title with you to your local tag office or tax collector and ask for an OHV(off highway vehicle) sticker

lots of rain...beats dust though....the longleaf trail(yellow) is in terrible shape....can you say whoops.....the tobacco trail(blue) is not bad...definitely some mud holes....but it's prob the best bet ....i started down the pipeline trail(brown) last week and turned around due to fallen trees...I coulda used a chain saw at times today...i'm not sure who's supposed to be riding and checking these trails for things like fallen trees much less grooming them but they don't get around often...I rode the perimeter of the Delancy Loops Trail(purple) it's not bad as far as whoops...a few trees down...but it's so tight it's actually kinda dangerous to me...unless you want to ride 5 mph....the rangers weren't bad...they will definitely check you for everything....the few riders I talked to weren't happy campers..I'm not so sure some of them will return...you definitely don't see the amount of riders you used to...not even close....i guess you have to pay the 10 bucks for a 3 day pass and make the judgement for yourself really...it's definitely not great but i paid my $75 for the yearly pass for no other reason than i won't let them discourage me.....besides....I like screwing with the rangers anyway...i know they love me.... is there a required kid strapping training course?   Wink
13  General / Where to Ride? / to be able to ride in the ONF.... on: April 11, 2007, 11:02:48 PM
do you need to sacrifice your first born at some government agency or are you legal if you just strap 'em on the front of your atv?
14  General / Where to Ride? / Re: Is A Title Or Registration Required To Ride in The ONF? on: March 27, 2007, 10:09:27 PM
you need a state of Florida OHV sticker...take your title to the department of motor vehicles...it's $4.50 and good forever....you don't have to pay to ride in the forest yet but that's coming...you'll need to park at a trailhead or along one of the trails somewhere because legally you can't ride to the trail
15  General / Where to Ride? / went to Rodman today... on: March 25, 2007, 09:50:11 PM
....made a loop to Delancey and back...heard there were rangers patrolling but I didn't see any....longleaf(the yellow trail) hasn't been groomed in a month..and that was they just ran a box blade around it once....it's pretty rough...make that REAL rough...me thinks that's what they REALLY want anyway......when I left the parking area at about 2:30 to go home there were 5 whole vehicles still parked there....beautiful weather, 2:30, and Sunday afternoon....and just 5 of 'em still there...I'd say they're getting what they REALLY want
16  General / Where to Ride? / Re: Rodman Sand Pit Closed on: March 19, 2007, 10:37:50 PM
I talked with a ranger sunday march 18th....apparently he's the head of recreation in Ocala...he and another ranger were patrolling yesterday...apparently he had a lot of influence of where the trails were placed and what areas were closed.....he told me they initially wanted to keep the pit open but decided that because the pit encouraged dangerous riding that it would carry over into the forest and that was why they closed it....he said they were looking to contract getting trails like the longleaf one groomed..can't imagine why with their new 70,000 dollar one mile a day piece of equipment they have..one mile a day..that's what i've been told by more than one ranger it can do..that'll get the job done....anyway he told me they were trying to make it a "family" thing in Ocala...i asked about opening more trails in some of the better places to ride in the forest...he said that ain't happenin'...apparent woodpecker protection....on returning to the parking area at rodman I saw him talking to this couple...i had another question for him and rode up to them...she was on their 4 wheeler and the guy was standing and listening....behind 'em were these two kids on this small atv....apparently they didn't have their florida ohv stickers and he was writing them a warning...told 'em they had 2 weeks to get proof to him they had gotten them or they faced a 180 dollar fine...I swear they looked like deer in the headlights talkin' to the ranger...they come out to do a little riding and unbeknownst this is what they get..I don't think they'd even ridden yet..anyway i asked him about the proposed fee for ocala...he said $75 per person for an annual pass by august probably...or $10 for a 3 day or $25 for a week....I know this couple loved hearing that....it woulda only cost em 40 bucks to ride that day....i could just picture the 2 little kids in the back of the squad car going to jail for not having their OHV sticker..i swear it was almost comical.....I know they enjoyed their "family" experience
