TRXASAURUS. I can understand how you feel , but don't let that stop you from riding in Ocala, just read up on all the rules, you can call the ranger offices and ask questions, I did. We just rode from Camp Dleancy west this past weekend, we had a great time and I never saw a ranger, my son said he did. The only thing I feel is the rangers could be a little more tolerant of first timers like I was.
Even knowing the rules, it's a little confusing at first, where to park and ride, wheres the trails and all.The only real problem we had was finding the purple trails from camp. If you go on the trail behind the campsite from Dlancey it heads out on the yellow trail , we went both directions and couldn't figure out how to go north to catch the purple trail. It wasn't until sat. morning when we saw people riding on the road from camp that we found the yellow trail north to the purple. So you have to ride on the dirt road to get to that trail , which I knwo you are not supposed to do but I guess that's what you have to do to get there.
You know I hear so many people fuss about the rules and fees , but the reality is more and more people are buying ATV's, want a place to ride, and if there were no rules in Ocala, or rangers enforcing them, and everyone could just ride where they wanted and do what they wanted, it would be an heck of a mess, the woods would all be tore up, no place left for wildlife ,it would be total chaos!! So some control and rules are just a necessity, given the number of people riding these days. All in all Ocala still is a great place to ride, it's a good location in central fla and has so many miles of trails, I don't see how you could ever get board riding there.

palatkat, I agree, I did not plan on riding late, we missed a turn coming back and got lost for a little while. I read the rules about not riding at dark or on roads. and tried to follow them as best I could, and trying to get my son and his friend to follow.

I just rode Lake Delancey this weekend for the first time. I was impressed with how long the trails are. We rode like 8 hours and didn't begin to explore all the trails up there. I don't hunt but I have always wanted to. For any of you that do, how do the hunters get around to hunt the north area? Seems to me it would work well to ride a trail way out on hog valley or so, then get off your OHV and walk into a tree strand and you'd be all set. I doubt many riders ride all the way out there in hog valley, that the most north west corner of the forest.

stacktester yeah it was late, We didn't plan on riding that late. We missed a turn on the trail and ended up way off from our camp. We found a hard pack road and took it back to the trail we were looking for. So yeah We were breaking the rules running late and on a road, I wouldn't have minded seeing a Ranger then, he probably could have helped us find our way back sooner. This was our first time riding in Ocala, so we were getting the hang of the trail system.

Heres some pcs from May 3,4 weekend ride. My first ride in Ocala, It was Me, my son and a friend, was a blast we will do it again. Only wish we had some rain to knock down the clouds of dust. My sons in the Army so it's minimal camping Rode the Purple trails, My sons checking the map, lots of fun but, they get no maintenance, brush and branches in your face, god help you if some one comes from the opposite direction, you'll never know till it's too late. My son made fun of my colorful head gear, but I had to do something to keep some of the dust off my head and face, of course he has all the hight tech Army gear to wear!! This section of the purple trail looks wide open, most of it was just barely open enough to stay on the quad. You cant begin to tell how dusty my quad was from this pic,

Ocala was good for us!!!!
MY first time riding in Ocala this past May 3,4 weekend. I have read all the negative blah, blah about how bad it is in Ocala, I'm guessing that is the Big Scrub, over crowded experience. We rode the northern trails from Lake Delancy west camp ground. We didn't see hardly a soul all weekend until late sat morning around noon when we left.
We would have kept on riding except one quad wouldn't start,we were getting tired of sucking dust and being hot and dirty, and with all the people riding the trails I was afraid of hitting some one head on on a trail, since the purple trails are so narrow and they are supposed to be two way travel. We We got into camp Friday night about 7:30 pm, quickly unloaded and hit the trails, rode until late like 11:00pm, we missed a turn on the yellow trails to come back to camp so it took a little longer coming back.We rode again sat morning and found the purple trails which were lots of fun, but very narrow, brush in your face and all, and I was amazed that the trails were not one way travel. One of us stopped at an intersection to wait for the other and, just then someone else came from the direction he was about to go. Had he not stopped, he would have definitely crashed into the oncoming quad.
Bottom line is, I haven't rode Big Scrub yet, so I cant comment on the problems everyone complains about there, but if your looking for miles of open trails, I don't know why more people dont ride the northern trails. I don't think you would hardly ever see a ranger or anyone else up there. We rode for a long time, at least 8 hours all weekend and we hardly even began to explore all the trails up north
I have read all information I could before we went, called the Rangers office and talked to people , asked questions, we had all our requirements, copy of title, etc. we were expecting the rangers to come check us out but it never happened. I'm in no place to judge, but from all I have read it appears to me the biggest problem people are having in Ocala is they show up expect to do whatever they used to do, don't get all their requirements together and then complain that the Rangers are hassling them, when all they had to do is read and come prepared to follow the rules.

Just came back from riding May 3, 4 LAke Delancy West. Great experience, we took the survey also. I hope a lot of OHV riders take the survey, great way to make our voices heard.
By the way , this was my first time riding the Ocala forest, I have read all sorts of negative comments about rangers hassling people, would never go back, blah, blah.... I'm guessing that mainly the Big Scrub experience. Not so at Delancy , guess not as many people are willing to go to the northern trails.Well we rode Friday evning till Sat afternoon, I think we saw one ranger, I don't think he even checked out trucks for the Riding permit stub, no hassles, no contact with us at all. We basically had most of the camp, except for one or two other campers to ourself all friday. We rode at night till 11.00 pm, saw people riding on the rodes, basically all the things your not supposed to do, no ranger hassles!!! JUst a great time, lots of dust clouds, only wish we had some rain. e will be back there again. it;s only an hour and a half from my house to Delancy so no reason I cant ride all day and come back home, Lots of fun, miles of trails, I think we only just began to explore them.

Hey Sixpack and and SkyHighT100, you guys are right here near me in Deltona, could you give me a PM on that location also? I'm going to Lake Dlancey West camping with my son and a friend May 3. Ocala may be a pain but it looks like a close place you camp and ride our ATV;s out of camp right onto the trails.

Me, my son and a friend riding big scrub north Ocala forest Sat May 3rd. This will be our first ride from home. I picked that since we are only an hour south in Deltona and we can camp out and ride from our camp. I got to look at all the rules and regulations now and make sure we are all correct.

Gato can I ask you some questions about Ocala as I have never been there. My son's friend has ans he says he doesnt want to go back because they are so strict about not riding in wetlands that if they even see mud on your bike they want to give you a ticket. I was looking on the web and looks like we can camp out and ride our quads from camp at Lake Delancy and at all the lake Delancy trails. Thats what I was wanting to do, have your quads with you in camp at night then ride from camp to the trails.
According to the US Forest web site Lake Delancy and Big Scrub are the only two places you can ride your bikes from campsite to trail , but soon they will change that to where you cant. I guess in the future you will have to park you quads at the trailheads, but thats gonna stink. Who would be comfortable parking thier trailers, trucks one place and camping at another? I wouldnt trust my new quad sitting somewhere I'm not.

Yeah Paul_8 I looked at that website, looks interesting. Looks like not too far north of me, Im in central Fla, Deland area. The hours of operation was like 10 till dark, so do you all have camp areas on site or people camp close by or how does that work for overnights.
TRX450R_Racer so at Croom it's the pit that draws a crowd, which I'm asuming is for the sport crowd doing doughnuts and such. We would be looking to trail ride mainly as we have two 4 wheel drives utes and one sport quad. Is there any problem finding a camping spot if you get there fri evenings ?
UncleRico my sons friend Lenny said he has been to Ocala and that they are real strick about no riding in wet lands and if they even see any mud on your quad they want to fine you??? So he doesnt want to go there again, I'm wondering if he just had a bad experience or are they really that bad???

My son just got back from Iraq, and I'm looking for a place to ride and campout for me, my son and his friend. Croom looks like the best option, but everyone says it is crowded, I have never been there, so I'm wondering just how crowded is it? We might see if we could go on a weekday but it will probabaly have to be a weekend. We will have to ute quads and one sport quad so we are looking for trails mainly. Anyone ever ride in OSCEOLA NATIONAL FOREST, in Oulustee Fla? Looks like some possibilities there, but I guess you ride on unnumbered dirt roads. I'm wondering if we would get lost and need a GPS there? Any thoughts would be welcome as my son and I have never been out off our property with my Brute Force anywhere yet.

Hey can I ask a question? I have not had the chance to go riding anywhere besides my own property yet,,,, But I am looking to try out Ocala, and Croom some day soon,Which locations require a flag anyway? I would sure like to know before I go and get in trouble for not having one. I read through the where to ride info but dont recall seeing anything about any of them requiring flags, just registraion stickers.

Mulemedics, I'll give you some advice based on my experience, I just bought a new 07 kawie BF 750. You look at the web site jocolo posted and see the discounted prices they have. Well I found a similar price for my BF750 , it was an unbelieveable low price, like 1500$ less than MSRP.Only problem was the bike was like 200 miles away. So I called my local Kawie dealer and asked if they could match the price, after a little dealling they did, without even seeing the invoce for verification. So the lesson is; find the quad you want, look for a discounted price like the one above , or make up a story you found one. Find your local dealer, that sells the quad you want, and see if you can get them to match the discounted price, they may want an invoice for verification ,or you may get lucky like I did and not need one. After I called the place with the discounted quad, they called me back and gave me the exact numbers for the deal, you know , x amount for assembly, delivery, and tax, final price. I ran those by my local dealer and in the end I saved about 1200$ off MSRP on my quad. And that is rare as I understand most people just walk in and pay MSRP for these things. Go figure.........

Hey all, Im new to all this , just got my Kawie BF750, I have never been to either of these places, Duranthamtown or Broadriver, but they both sound fun. But it is hard to tell much about the trails from the websites. DP sounds like it has everything, I so wish we had somthing like that in Florida. Looks like Georgia folks are really into thier quads, and having fun. But since some of you have been to both which one would be good for ute trail riding? I havnt tried the muddin yet, though I have heard its fun. I would love to start out on some trails. Shoot with thes AC in the cabins and all I might even get my wife to come.

lemme gues your from ny lol
No hope I didnt come off as a yank, Im from Florida, central fla.Like I said I'm new to quads,I do have a Ford F-150 4x4,it's stock but I am familiar with mud and lift kits. I always wanted an ATV but could never afford one. They are just so expensive I dont see how people can afford all the mods and then own multiple quads. Ones things for sure , yoiu can do just about anything with these things.I been riding mine in my woods and this thing will go just about anywhere, which is a real help. I'm looking forward to when I have more time, and seeing what I can pull with my BF, I got some trees to cut down and haul back to my burn pile and such. See I have soft sugar sand here in central fla, so the 4 wheel low should come in handy I think.

Here's my bike still under construction..... Well I'm new here so forgive me if I step on any toes, but I just find it funny what you all do with these quads. I see people jack their 4x4 trucks up real high , with Hugh tires , make em look all pretty, and here I see you all do the same thing with quads , like a mini monster truck,,, You need a step ladder to get on that thing, and you got all the pretty rims and all only to get it all muddy, tear it up and start all over again. I just dont see the point of putting fancy rims and all on something thats going to get all dirty anyways. But then I really dont have any extra money for any of that right now anyhow, it cost enough just to buy this thing let alone mod it out. My Kawie Brute Force 750 is stock, I got it to work on my 5 acres, and play some too. I havnt been muddin yet but I guess I will have to try it at least once anyway. I cant see taking a perfectly clean quad and getting it all muddy, but I'll try it one day anyway. [attachment deleted by admin]

Hey all, I'm new here but I did a search and found a great site with a great trail search engine, you all may already know about it, atvfan.com. Go there and use the trail finder, put in your zip code, distance from zip, it will search up to 500 miles away and it will give you a list of trails. I think you would be surprised at how many trails there are in the southeast from Alambama, SC, Georgia, and Florida. I did a search from my zip in central Fla, 500 miles , got a list of 35 locations, 14 in Georgia alone. Each site has reviews, details, maps and all.
One day when I get the time and all ,I would love to take a week and make a trip through the south east an hit some of these trails, they look like a lot of fun. Check that site out, you'll find something there.
